Eating Music presents Drifting with Friends

Shanghai’s Eating Music, one of the electronic scene’s most exciting and rich labels, returns with the fourth annual compilation - Drifting with Friends – once again showcasing its deep roster of boundary-pushing artists - each looking to ‘transcend space and voice through music’. It’s a beautiful tapestry of sounds and tones - by far the label’s most cohesive and beguiling compilation - featuring some artists from not only China but across the globe, including South Korean producer Mogwaa, Los Angeles-based composer Kai Luen, as well as Tokyo producers Sauce 81 and RGL. Representing the Mainland are Gooooose, Laughing Ears, mindexxx, Voision Xi, and Knopha - each knocking it out of the park and providing some of 2022’s best standalone tracks thus far.

Bloodz Boi x Quit Life - 365

Chameleon rapper Bloodz Boi, borne out of Beijing’s underground hip-hop scene, returns with his latest collaboration - this time with experimental electronic duo Quit Life. With a knack for blurring the line trap, emo rap, and dancehall music, and known for his fragile bleeding heart almost tearful delivery, Blood Boi’s vocals are a perfect match for the ethereal ambient-laced sonic soundscapes concocted by the Swedish duo - both in its cohesiveness and its off-the-cusp sentimentality. A woozy mix Sigur Ros, Elliott Smith and Ben Gibbard thrown into the deep end of cloud rap, it finds the artist hitting new heights.

Diluted Virtual Circuit - TINA?

There’s no one quite like Beijing based alternative hip-hop artist Diluted Virtual Circuit out there. Combining esoteric and cerebral electronica with reflective bedroom hip-hop, with a simmering of R&B and neo-soul, DVC doesn’t seem to be clamouring for the same highs most rappers shoot for in this day and age, instead, following his own off-kilter muse. With a keen ear for hypnotic beats full of imagination and dreamlike veneer and a penchant for slow-burning verses that drift between the ‘intersections of emotional capitalism, internet warfare, pop culture and our collective death drive’, DVC joins the ranks of hip-hop geeks injecting the genre with a breath of fresh air.
