Beijing indie rockers Backspace dive into the deep end of their psychosis on their newest EP ‘The Face of the Night’ - a nocturnal-themed slow burn that allows their psych-inflected fireside rock to ferment and swell with moody discourse and existential dread, it presents a different shade of the band. While it doesn’t have the frantic infectious drive their sophomore release had, Face of the Night moves at its own woozy pace - capturing a feeling somewhere between Beatnik whimsy and stoned delirium.

Chocolate Factory 巧克力工厂 - Kiss Your Planet 亲吻你的行星

Shaoxing instrumental rockers Chocolate Factory are a fine new addition to the scene as evident by their robust debut Kiss Your Planet, released with White Cat Laundry. With a delicate and subtle technical touch - the band are clean and methodic in their sound but in the best possible way - luring listeners into their warm-hued world of math rock harmonic gestures filled with ups and downs and even a couple of emo-laced sing-a-longs. With plenty of fantastical highs, and dreamy labyrinthian arrangements to get lost in, Chocolate Factory are well worth the visit, and one that you might find yourself coming back to again and again.

Early Park 鳄梨帕克 - Bonjoir, Magic Island 晚安，魔力岛

Changsha’s Early Park, whose brisk yet nimble indie rock, coated in thick layers of dream pop, math rock and noise pop, made them one of last year’s best discoveries return with their debut LP - 'Bonjoir, Magic Island 晚安，魔力岛'. There’s a vitality to the band’s sound that washes over you like a warm breeze as spry guitar arrangements and full-bodied vocals push through the clouds, casually waltzing between adolescent exuberance and wistful daydreaming with refreshing certitude. Indie pop doesn’t get much better.
