Wave your freak flag proud and high my fellow lockdown friends! Shanghai-based duo Guji, made up of Jiang Zi Xiu and rabble rouser Chachy (of Round Eye fame) let loose their first single ‘Build A Friend For Me’. And in proper Devo/The-B-52s fashion, the pair went ahead and put together their own DIY music video, created in Shanghai’s never-ending and sanity-breaking COVID lockdown. Love it. Rock on and keep em’ coming Guji!

Whale Wave 鲸浪 - 水汽

Indie rock that’s not afraid to swoon, inject a little surf rock swagger and lean into its softer Britpop edges, Guangzhou’s Whale Wave are making, ahem, waves with their latest EP Bohemian in Sai Cyun, released with WaterMade Records. The track Water Vapor gets the MV treatment. Lots of Chunking Express over cranked shots on the streets of Guangzhou as its two star-crossed lovers wander aimlessly through the streets and woods of old Canton. And lying silent in a tub of water - contemplating life of course - as the band lays it on thick.
