Tai'an black metal pioneers Dark Fount - who lean more into the riff-heavy elements of Norwegian black metal - are back with their sophomore LP with Pest Productions - fifteen years in the making. Hearkening to ‘the second wave of black metal with a misanthropic nature’ there’s a raw theatricality to the band’s grim outlook - painting its sweeping passages in a turbulence of ‘coldness and fury’ - much like the ancient woods which surround the band’s hometown. Gorgeously bleak, relentless in its desolation - Dark Fount may be world-weary but their sound is as ferocious as ever.

China brutal death metal titans, The Dark Prison Massacre, who hail from Tianjin, return with their latest body slam of an album - TRIPLE INSANITY - finding the band at their most mature and savage. With track names that include ‘No School Violence’ and ‘Stop Slut Humiliation’ the band’s social consciousness is seeping deeper into their sound, giving their already hard-hitting sound more potency. Metalcore music that gleefully dips into emo rock, hardcore, rap, and pop punk territory - Shenzhen’s Modeler face the impetuous turbulence of their lives with their new EP 塑 - created over the past four four years as the band molded their sound. Pairing guttural vocal chord-damaging aggression with the more melodic, poppy and impassioned catharsis found within the genre’s many offshoots, the band’s at its best when leaning into the cutthroat devil may cry deviance lyricisms and the angular razor-sharp musicality.
