上周去西安时，恰逢我最喜欢的北京乐队之一——小王乐队——的演出。她们大胆的节奏和演唱风格使其成为地下场景中最“臭名昭著”的乐队之一。尽管乐队的成员构成发生了一些重大变化，但每次我看到她们时，她们都在超越着自己。乐队将卡哇伊核、朋克、日摇和流行融合，有一种原始之感——正如将脆弱、愤怒与冒泡的热情混合，最终得到一份烈性混合物。开场乐队是本地乐队甜蜜抽搐——另一支由女性领导的朋克乐队，拥有相当的勇气和能力。尽管她们表达的信息或许更直白，她们音乐的影响力或许更显著——但这毫不妨碍乐队棒极了。

It’s been just about two years since I last catch Xiaowang, the ferocious Beijing rockers with a knack for gut-punching rhythms and raw potent vocals, at none other than Xi’an VeinLab - one of the rays of light in the city that’s been trying to crush my soul for the last decade. 

My love-hate relationship with Xi’an aside, it was great to catch up to catch the band again - who despite some significant changes to their lineup - still manage to one-up themselves each and every time I see them. With a wildly, unwieldy collection of songs that touch on everything from empowerment of women to our detestable consumer society, there’s a rawness to the band’s tipsy turvy blend of kawaiicore, punk, J-rock, pop and then some - one that mixes vulnerability, seething rage and bubbly exuberance with potent results. 

As I’ve said before, they’re ‘lightning in a bottle’ - one of the best and most underrated acts in the Chinese rock scene. Let’s hope they get their due soon. 

Opening support came in the form of Sweet Tic - another female-led punk band that’s got plenty of spunk and the chops to back it up. It’s message may be more blunt and it’s influences more apparent - but that didn’t stop the band from kicking all kinds of ass.
