Frankfurt Helmet 法兰克福头盔 - INDIVIDUALS 星丛

Cool-hued IDM electro architects Frankfurt Helmet, consisting of Wuhan transplants Hu Juan (former AV Okubo drummer) and Da Fei (of short-lived electro rock band CodNew) have been making a name for themselves with their deconstructed glitch-filled, ambient-laced electronic music that builds its sci-fi evoking world piece by piece. And with their long-awaited debut 星丛INDIVIDUALS, one can only expect the duo to attract ears from across the globe. Sometimes stirring, sometimes kinetic, and always engaging - listening to Frankfurt Helmet’s sonically dense tracks is akin to losing oneself in a mammoth installation piece - one that looks simple or minimalistic on the outside but contains a multitude of layers and crevices within its framework.

Yangfan - Trip Jigsaw 小曲儿辑 

Renowned producer and musician Yangfan - whose musical fingerprints have long been woven into the fabric of the Chinese underground music scene - returns with her latest solo album -Trip Jigsaw - her first since 2015’s What Happened after 1001 Nights? The album - a curation of Yangfan's scores over the past decade - is a richly eclectic and royally crafted collection that captures the composer’s dexterous idiosyncrasies . Utilizing a studio's worth of equipment - from guitar, piano, recorder, synths, and drum machines (as well as the help of industry friends) - with steadfast rhythmic control and a sense of imaginative thrust and offbeat whimsy, it's a Grimm fairy tale brought to musical life. Or better yet, a Hayao Miyazaki fantasy crossed with French new wave cinema and psychedelia.

Yu Miao 于淼 - yumiao+

Esteemed guzheng player and composer Yu Miao goes solo on the aptly named yumiao+. Featuring the artist’s delicately assembled and lushly atmospheric arrangements - it’s pretty much what you’d expect - operating at that sublime intersection between electronica, contemporary classical music and traditional Chinese music without ever coming off as gimmickry. Never bogged down in its details or ornamentation, Yu Miao composes some truly haunting compositions here - rich in their narrative and emotional pull whilst breathing new life into the ancient instrument. On the back half of the album she teams up with some of the electronic scene’s most exploratory producers including Wang Meng (who she teamed with the year before for an LP), ZHI16, L+R, and Richard Divine.
