WaChi 蛙池 - 郊游
Dongguan’s WaChi have become one of the indie scene’s most sought after bands these past few years - attracting fans with their impassioned lyrics and soaring melodies. Their debut LP ‘郊游’ continues this trend yet in many ways feels lighter on its feet - displaying both a playfulness in its instrumentation, with vocal melodies that room more freely. Diverse and deftly assembled (including production from Carsick Cars’ Zhang Shouwang) their outing touches on everything from math rock to folk music (and even some Spanish for good measure), whilst charting it’s own path.

Qiii Snacks Records once again digs deep into the underbelly of the emo and shoegaze scene with their latest acquisition - the appropriately messy and lo-fi EP The Tears of Aether, from the young Shenzhen outfit Yitai以太. Jolting from reverb-soaked farewells (Fade Fade Away) to more frenzied self-deprecating spirals (Sin Dance Club) - it’s a scrappy little album that’s feels raw, hazy, and visceral in the best possible way, capturing adolescence at its most vulnerable.
