Empower youth with

 Featured Camp Activities

The future is here, calling for youths who have global competence! IDEAS U-Motion Camp’s programme is designed from the following four dimensions, aiming at offering youths a broad and immersive environment for international exploration.

I. Empowerment with Global Awareness

When educators established the conceptual framework of “global competence”, its foundations include learning the world through disciplinary and interdisciplinary learning, familiarizing with global issues, fluent native language and English, as well as scientific mindset and methodology.

Youth Summit

The “U” of “U-Motion” refers to “Youth”, meaning “Universus”, i.e. where different parts of the globe get connected. We expect to offer youth a place to encounter the world, discuss global issues and open up the world view.

The Youth Summit features prominent social innovation leaders from various industries. We hope that campers could embrace new ideas more openly, engage with the rapidly changing world, and learn how to discuss diverse cultures in different ways. Campers will gain knowledge from not only authorities but also open dialogues with peers.

Design Thinking Workshop

At the Design Thinking workshop, youths will engage in deep learning of this innovative and cutting-edge discipline that originated from Stanford University. They will learn human-centered design methods and empathize with product users. Artistic forms such as painting, modeling and drama will be utilized to create services and products tailor-made for modern humans of the 21st century. Through the iterative design cycle, campers will experience personal growth.

Immersive English Environment

The ancient Babylon Tower, once collapsed due to language and cultural barriers, will be re-built at IDEAS U-Motion Camp! Global campers gather at China with their native languages that bear diverse cultures and histories; meanwhile, they could also communicate, collaborate and create using fluent English. The power of language has never been stronger.

II.Cultural Awareness and Confidence & Open and Respectful Mindset

Campers will deepen understanding towards their own cultural origin and maintain their unique characteristics; meanwhile, they could act unbiasedly towards different people, regions and cultures. Empathy is the mostly cherished attitude in the “Global Competence” conceptual framework.

"Six Arts" Education

The ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius advocated for the “Six Arts” education, including Rites, Music, Archery, Chariot-riding, Calligraphy and Mathematics. The “Six Arts” is the earliest “holistic education” theory. At U-Motion, campers will develop deep understanding towards Chinese traditional education through experiencing the Six Arts based on the Experiential Learning Methodology.

Yushan Challenge

At Yushan Mountain, also known as Wumushan Mountain in ancient times, campers will hike on the mountain as well as visit temple built in the Qi Liang period in the Southern dynasty and mountain villa. At Yushan Mountain, campers can immerse themselves in the ease lifestyle described in an ancient Chinese poem: "raindrops drift through the lake riding the wind, stream and clouds meander across trees. Free from noises and heats, with wine and breeze, we could appreciate the Yushan Mountain view from window seats."

Human Library

At “Human Library” that originated from Demark, campers will get exposed to a variety of stories, including studying abroad, outdoor exploration, international philanthropy, debating and public speaking,  performance art, etc. Youths from Asia, America, Europe and Africa who have outstanding talents and colorful experience will become “human books”, so that campers could closely listen to their stories.

Ⅲ Cross-cultural communication and collaboration

Only with the ability to friendly interact with people of different cultural backgrounds and to resolve conflicts effectively, can youths become big-picture thinkers and productive leaders in their communities and at workplace.

World Cafe

Campers will break cultural barriers and debate global issues, including politics, religion, economics, gender issues, etc. The intellectually stimulating cross-cultural dialogues will enable youths to understand the meaning of “harmony in diversity”, and to deepen understanding towards enormous challenges associated with globalization.

Changshu Challenge

Campers will immerse themselves in both busy city and outdoor fields, playing roles of explorers and practitioners. They will act together as each other’s powerful teammate, solving challenges through communication and collaboration.

Ⅳ The power to improve status quo

Social service experience and skills in a teamwork setting are not only highly valued by admissions officers of prestigious colleges, but also the origin of social innovation. Campers will engage in the process of developing social service projects, integrating individual strengths to deliver result effectively as a team, and impact the world with youths’ power!

Project Development

At U-Motion, we connect youths’ unlimited innovation power with real life scenarios. In the problem-based project development process, campers will unleash their power of critical thinking, comprehensive analysis and problem-solving!

A-Action Program

The IDEAS Encourage Youth Participation Program (A-action) has provided fund and supervision for more than 350 youth teams in 22 cities. U-Motion campers’ excellent projects will be prioritized when applying for A-action program. Once selected, the campers’ project will get continuous funding, supervision and supportive social resources. A-action helps youths make their first step towards impacting the world!

U-Motion is not only a classroom for personal growth, but also a community for making global friends!

In exciting ice-breaking activities, talent show and dance flash mob, campers will combine talents and imagination to fully demonstrate their creativity and passion.

Are you an experienced stand-up comedian or a creative actor / actress? Maybe you are a powerful singer or a mysterious hip-hop performer? No matter what talent you possess, you are always welcomed on the fascinating “Talent Show” stage tailor designed for millennials. Get ready for the cheers from global campers!

Words from the U-Motion Community

Words from Opinion Leaders:

What matters most is not just how much we know, but whether we are able to apply our knowledge in ways that are relevant and productive in this changing world. To do this, we need “soft skills” that will allow us to thrive, including dispositions and mindsets. Camp is exactly where we could develop and enhance mindsets.

——Scott Brody(USA)

Chairman, "Beyond School" Initiative, P21

School prepares you to be a human resource. Camp education prepares you to be resource for human. Human resources merely are followers, but resources for human are leaders.

   ——Peter Farrell(Australia)

Broadway Musical Producer and Director

Words from Camp Education Expert:

I understand that the responsibility as a counselor is not to become a superstar, but to serve and support others so that they could make achievements.

——Ben George(UK)

Former Project Director of UWC China

Words from Camp Counselors:

We don't necessarily teach campers knowledge. Instead, we lead and facilitate reflection sessions after camp activities, thus enabling campers to realize the infinite possibilities in themselves.

 ——Monica(USA)

We are deeply moved by campers' growing passion towards social service, respect for nature and pursuit for dreams during the 14-day camp. This is what empowers me as an U-Motion Counselor. IDEAS has witnessed my growth for more than 10 years, and I am willing to accompany IDEAS to the future.

——Harry (Bowdoin College)

Words from IDEAS Campers:

I used to be a taciturn introvert who barely talks in the class. At U-Motion, I gained the courage to speak and perform in front of more than 100 people. These changes were unimaginable in the past. When I looked back at who I used to be two weeks ago, I realized the real meaning of “There is more in you than you think”.

——Vick (Beijing)

Time fleets at IDEAS camp, where there is always laughter and friends from around the world. U-Motion gave me a perfect opportunity to re-discover the world and myself. After each camp, I set new goals for myself. IDEAS U-Motion camp always invigorates me!

——Ian (USA)
