Remembrance Day Assembly
Remembrance Day Assembly
On Monday we had our annual and sombre Remembrance Day ceremony, commemorating all those that have lost their lives or loved ones in times of conflict. The original movement behind the wearing of poppies may seem very removed from our students lives but the messages and lessons from it are as relevant today as they were 100 years ago. Head of Senior School Mr Wilsonlock used Picasso’s Guernica to portray the horror of ‘collateral damage’ in our follow-up assemblies to give students some context.

As part of Remembrance Day learning, children throughout the Junior School have been taking part in an art project portraying their understanding of the symbolism of poppies, remembering people who fought in the war. The poppy is seen as a symbol of strength, being a flower that flourished despite fields being destroyed, and the children have created many unique poppies to show their respect and reflections. Please do come and see these, displayed in the entrance to our school.
