IMPORTANT! How Tax Record Affect Your Visa Application
To enhance the management of foreigners working in China, the government build a new system for the Work Permit application in 2017, all the detailed application information required to submit to the system, such as your work history, study situation, salary, position and work content and so on. Everything is recorded in the system, applicant need to provide all the true information, once the bureau find you submit fake documents you will be on the black list.
Now the more serious stuff is about the salary you submit in the system, it should be the same as the labor contract you signed with your employer, you need to handle your Individual Income Tax(IIT) based on the salary. (China is going to issue a new IIT rule start from 1st Oct 2018, VisaOfChina will publish the calculation formula on our official WeChat then)
The Individual Income Tax(IIT) record report may have these affections of your work permit/Visa:
1. The IIT may affect your work permit extension process
When you go for the work permit extension, the new system will check your salary of last year submitted and all other application information, depends on your application, the bureau may require you to provide the IIT record report (it can be printed in any tax bureau with your passport), VisaOfChina already meet many cases that because of no IIT record report and the bureau refused the extension application.
For Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan and most of other provinces in China, the IIT report is the MUST document for the work permit extension, if your IIT not fit your salary in the system, you might be required to handle the IIT first before the bureau issue the work permit extension. (The work permit extension cost 2-4 weeks to do, we suggest you to think about and handle this 2-3 months before your work permit expires.
In the big cities such as Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen, the IIT is not a must document for the normal application at the moment, but required for some special situation. As the China work permit system and visa policy still on the developing process, we think it's very possible for these big cities to consider the IIT as the MUST document for work permit application in soon future.
(The applicant of Appointment / Accreditation from International company can be exempted)
2. IIT will be helpful for your work visa application
If you have a good IIT record, the immigration bureau may get you 3 or 5 years resident permit. For these applicant whose IIT more than RMB 12,000(round USD 1,500 ) per month(average) for more than 4 years, they will be possible to apply the China Permanent Resident. (Please see our official WeChat of the detailed requirements)
3. China recently start a 183-day-test tax rule, the people (holding business or other visa) stay in China for more 183 days during a taxpaying year, may require to pay for IIT if they have income in China.
The Individual Income Tax(IIT) usually will be handled on the monthly tax declaration by company accountant, if you don't have any IIT record or not fit the number on the sytem please ask your accountant to do it on time, VisaOfChina would also recommend some qualified Tax/Finance/Audit agencies for help.
