Can spouse visa holders pay taxes in China?

No. Only work visa(Z visa)holders can pay taxes.

The Individual Income Tax Law of PRC states that an international who works in China must make at least 5,000 yuan a month to be eligible for taxation.

What are the ways for spouse visa holders to work legally?

1. Transfer spouse visa to work visa/Z Visa

For applicants in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, they can transfer spouse visa directly to work visa(resident permit) without leaving the country.

For applicants in  other cities, they will need to apply for Z visa at China embassy outside of China.

What Types of people are qualified for working visa(Z Visa):

1) Talented people who are encouraged by the government to work in China.

Normally they need to earn 600,000RMB as annual salary, and have to pay 120,000RMB for taxes. In general cases they can get the work permit valid for 1 years for the first time applying and multiple years when they renew it.

2) People who have bachelor's degree or above 2 years of work experience relate to their job offer.

4) People who have professional certificates(needs to be checked first)+2 years of work experience related to the job offer.

5) Native English speakers who have TEFL/TESOL, or major in English-related fields

2. Transfer spouse visa to work visa(Z visa) as a legal representative after company registration

In general, people who want to do business in China can register a company and apply for work visa(Z visa) as a legal representative. 

It will require capital verification report. (Proving investment amount by remittance to the company bank account)

What types of people are qualified for Entrepreneur Visa:

1) Overseas investors or entrepreneurs (proof of investment is needed).

2) Graduates of within 2 years (there could be exceptions) from Chinese top universities or top 300 universities in the world.

Advantages of  Entrepreneur Visa:

1) Application process takes only 7 working days after submission.

2) The applicant can obtain multi-entries.

3) Materials needed are relatively easy to prepare.(Main materials needed are degree certificate/business plan/incubatior certificate）

4) Can stay in China legally for a relatively long time.(normally 6 months to 1 year).
