Online Exclusive: Beckon Fortune with the Japanese Lucky Cat
G-SHOCK is releasing three new limited models based on the Japanese “Manekineko”, widely known as the fortune cat which is believed to be a lucky charm that brings fortune and good luck to its owner.
The fortune cat is identified by its beckoning motion and is traditionally outfitted in a red apron, green collar and gold bell. These colours are incorporated into the design of the watches, which also feature imagery of cats and “koban” (old Japanese oval gold coins).
DW-5600TMN – The fortune cat emerges when the backlight is activated!
Auspicious motifs can be found on the DW-5600TMN-1DR and DW-5600TMN-7DR, which use the iconic square design DW-5600 as a base.
GA-100TMN – Cat head motif on the hand of the subdial
Oval gold coins decorate the dial and when the backlight is activated, an illustration of the fortune cat appears. DW-5600TMN-1DR is based on a black fortune cat and has a black bezel and band, while DW-5600TMN-7DR is based on a white fortune cat and has a white bezel and red band.
Cat head motif on subdial hand
Inspired by a gold fortune cat, this model uses the digital-analog combination GA-100 as a base. The dial features an all-over gold coin pattern, and the subdial hand is in the shape of a cat face, lending a playful touch to the watch.
Cut-out shape of a cat head on the band keeper
Besides incorporating accents of red, green and gold, the playful design of all three models also features a cheeky cut-out in the shape of a cat head on the belt loop.
Exclusive packaging designed by BlackEyePatch
In addition, G-SHOCK, which is no stranger to collaborations, has roped in the creative prowess of leading Japanese streetwear label BlackEyePatch to design the illustration of the fortune cat found in the DW-5600 models as well as the exclusive packaging of all three models.
