Matisse & Picasso's Artworks to Line National Gallery's Walls
Matisse and Piccasso's fans rejoice!
Two of the world’s most renowned artists, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, will have their works presented in National Gallery Singapore (NGS) this May. The world-class art exhibition of ‘Matisse & Picasso’ will run for three months, a rare commodity for travellers in the region to see masterworks of both artists.
The show will exhibit the artistic relationship between two of Europe’s greatest twentieth-century artists.
Henri Matisse (1869–1954) and Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) met in 1906 and for more than half a century inspired and influenced each other’s creative developments and achievements. Their friendly rivalry was not only determining of their individual success, it also created history for the 20th century Western European art.
This exhibition swirls together masterpieces from collections around the world and captures paintings that will be on display in Singapore, the only destination outside of Australia.
The exhibition will feature more than 60 paintings and sculptures extracted from prestigious public and private collections internationally and in Australia. Furthermore, it will also reveal Gallery’s enormous collection of drawings, prints, illustrated books and costumes by Matisse and Picasso.
