Now "shortchange" is something that might happen when you purchase something from a store, they do not give you back enough money when you pay them more than the price of something. Let's say you were buying a book for 5 dollars, and you gave the cashier a 20(dollar bill) then she gave you only 1 dollar change back. This means you were shortchanged.
