题目:Mechanistic Study of Plant ZAR1 Resistosome

Abstract:Plants and animals have hit upon similar immune strategies to protect themselves against pathogens. One important mechanism is defined by cytoplasmic immune receptors called NLRs that, in plants, recognize so-called effectors, molecules that invading microorganisms secrete into the plant's cells. Host recognition of effectors by NLRs, whether direct or indirect, results in cell death and immune responses to confine microbes to the site of infection. However, until now, a detailed understanding of the mechanisms of action of plant NLRs has been lacking. In our recent two studies, we focused our attentions on a plant NLR called ZAR1 and pieced together the sequence of molecular events that convert inactive NLR molecules into active complexes, which we termed ‘resistosome’ that provide disease resistance. One striking feature of plant resistosome is its similarity with animal NLR proteins, which, once activated, also assemble into wheel-like structures that act as signaling platforms for cell death execution and immune signaling. However, one important difference between the structures offers a tantalizing clue as to how ZAR1 induces cell death. Thus, our findings have important general implications for understanding plant immunity.


 


主讲人简介

王继纵,博士,毕业于清华大学。


目前已在Nature、Science、Structure等国际学术期刊发表数篇论文,博士生期间还获得了年度“博士研究生国家奖学金”和“拜耳”作物科学研究一等奖以及“生命中心生命科学研究一等奖”等多项荣誉。博士毕业后,王继纵选择继续留在柴继杰教授实验室从事博士后研究,并于2016年10月加入结构生物学高精尖创新中心“卓越学者”项目,博士后期间,担任国家自然科学基金“青年科学基金”项目负责人,获河南省科技技术进步一等奖,被评为清华大学优秀博士后等。


其主要研究领域为:1)植物肽类激素及其受体的结构和功能研究;2)水稻抗真菌免疫受体的结构生物学研究;3)植物NLR抗病蛋白的结构和功能研究。
