佛经上把痛苦分为三大类:
苦苦、变苦、行苦。
In Buddhism, suffering is
divided into three categories,
from the gross to the subtle:
suffering of suffering,
suffering of change,
suffering of conditioning.

所谓苦苦,即显而易见、
不折不扣的痛苦。
比如身体和精神的创伤,
病痛、恐惧、生离死别。
人人避之唯恐不及,
谁也不会把它们误认为是
别的东西而想去追求、亲近。
Suffering of suffering refers
to the one that is explicitly
unpleasant and undesirable.
such as physical pain, mental
agony,sickness, fear, separation
and death. Nobody will mistake
it for happiness, and all wish
to be free from it.

变苦指通常被我们理解为
快乐的种种体验和现象,
因其本质为苦而终将由
快乐变成痛苦。
比如现代人的很多烦恼和疾病
都是由于饮食不当造成的。
Suffering of change refers
to the produced by changes.
Itincludes experiences and things
that initially appear to bring
happiness but over time lead to
suffering.This is because the
perceived happiness or pleasure
is only a form of relief relative
to suffering but not happiness
by nature. Otherwise, the more
we engage in the causes that bring
happy experiences, the more
intensified our sense of
happiness would become.

吃喝是生存的必需条件,
好的饮食会令人感到愉悦,
但愉悦不会随着饮食量的不断
增加而增大。
如果其本质就是快乐的,
你吃喝得越多应该越快乐才对。
然而过度饮食让人感到不舒服,
甚至导致疾病,这说明
饮食的快乐里包含着痛苦。
Eatingis necessary for us to
live,and good food pleases us.
However our level of sensory
pleasure does not necessarily
increase with higher food
consumption.Conversely
overeating makes us fell
uncomfortable or even sick.
Evidently the pleasure of eating
carries in itself elements
of suffering.

人们的生活方式,
自以为快乐的一些行为,
像长时间电脑、看电视、开车,
熬夜唱歌跳舞喝酒等,
都会造成疾病。
同样,相聚是快乐的,
但天下没有不散的宴席,
相聚的快乐里
隐含着分离的痛苦。
Otherunhealthy lifestyles,
suchas long-hour TV watching,
areperceived to bring pleasures
butdo in fact cause potential
healthproblems.
5.
为人父母是快乐的,
可把娇小脆弱的生命抚养成人,
要付出多少精力,提心吊胆,
不寝不食,这其中又有多少苦!
升职加薪是快乐的,
不过压力和焦虑也随之而来,
办公室政治升级,
各种关系处理起来令人头疼。
Careerpromotion gives
onea sense of achievement,
butpressure anxiety and
intensifiedoffice
politicsare its price.
6.
个人财富增加后如何保管,
保值和分配,都是操不完的心。
仔细思量,人们生活中每一项
快乐都含带着日后的痛苦。
Andto be fabulously rich
entailsthe painful burden
ofpreserving and
distributingwealth.
(总言之)
行苦是一种更深刻
也更细微的痛苦。它是指
陷于轮回的众生
整个存在状态的无奈和不圆满。
身心受到业力牵制,
被种种烦恼束缚。
普通人的生命皆是
由烦恼中来,到烦恼中去,
全然不得自主地流转,流转。
Namely suffering of
conditioning is much subtler
and more profound.
suffering by nature regardless
of its varied forms, This very
existence is propelled by
karmicforce and consequently
trapped in endless affliction.
And our deluded minds
drive us to transmigrate in
thesamsaric ocean of suffering,
life after life, without seeing
the prospect of liberation.
