虚心生正念

心中充满欲望的人，

他的心湖波涛汹涌。

One with desire inside

is a billowing

wintry lake.

即使处在山林中，

也感受不到寂静之趣。

And even in the mountain

 forests he finds no tranquillity.

心中没有物欲的人，

在酷热中，

心田也能感觉清凉。

One with vacuity inside is

 cool amid scorching heat.

即使处在喧哗中，

也不会感到扰攘。

And even in the market and 

court he knows no clamor.

心中宁静祥和，

不生物欲贪念，

虽处朝市也不觉喧闹，

虽处污晦的名利场中

也不受浸染。

If your mind is serene and calm, 

that is free of greed and 

yearnings, then even among

crowds you won't feel bothered,

 and even in vile places 

you won't be tainted.
