树，从未被怀疑过是自然的符号，而我们总是抽象地探讨建筑应如何对待自然问题。如若我们直截了当地将抽象问题具体化，则讨论将会变成：一栋建筑或一个组团的建筑群，应如何处理与树（及自然相关物）之间的关系？
Trees are doubtlessly deemed as a natural symbol, but we have always abstractly held a discussion on how architecture should treat the issues of the nature. If we directly interpret the abstract issues to concrete ones, the discussion would be how a building or a cluster of buildings should deal with the relation of trees (and relative things of the nature).

树木，是地球的怀抱，树之不存，人将无存，在人类存在的最初，森林已存在。古树名木，则是珍贵的自然资产，是自然演变的见证者。守护世界范围内的古树名木，创造人类与古树与森林可持续性共生共存的未来。古树与人，生生不息。
Trees are the embrace of the earth. If trees disappear, humans will disappear too. Forests have existed since the time when humans were born. Ancient trees or famous trees are all the precious capital of the nature which are witnesses to the evolution of the nature. We shall guard these ancient trees or famous trees throughout the world and create a coexistence future of sustainability both for humans and trees and forests. Ancient trees and humans will continue to breed in an endless succession.
如同飞屋环游记，大部分人的童年都会对某些意向产生共鸣。在其中，“住在树上”是一个非常常见的意向。但“住在树上”并不只是在树上居住，他意味着一种来自于本源的冲动和意愿。在城市化为主导的现代社会发展进程中，现代主义及后现代主义建筑毫无疑问占据了大半江山。
It is like the film Up produced by Pixar that most people will resonate with some certain imagery in their childhood, and “live on trees” is a common imagery. However, “live on trees” does not mean dwelling in the trees, while it is an impulse or a will from the origin. In the process of modern society development themed with urbanization, architecture of modernization and post-modernization undoubtedly take up the largest percentage.

但从古至今，城市生活一直都不是全人类社会文化生活的全部。人们总会在某一块远离尘嚣地、土地上寻求到完全不一样的文化居所与心理慰藉。而作为这样的慰藉与愿望，最终作为“树居”这样的梦境与希冀被准确而具象地表达了出来。这样的慰藉最终应形貌何如？这样的探讨不绝于耳，而结论始终仁者见仁智者见智。
From ancient time till now, urban life hasn’t been the entire life of humans in society and with culture. Humans have always got a different cultural residence and psychological place on a certain land of isolation. These comfort and desire will finally be expressed concisely and concretely as a dreamlike hope – “tree residence”. What is this comfort like in the end? The discussion and probing continue endlessly, but the conclusion is always varied.

正因如此，我们需要明确，我们应该如何在与树的对话中寻找到我们想要得到的答案。
而参赛者们提出的答案，或许其中的某一些将闪耀出自然的火花。或许藏匿其中的某一个，就是最佳答案。
For this reason, we shall clearly point out how we should find the desired answer when having a conversation with trees. And perhaps, among the answers submitted by the entrants, some will have a natural spark, and one of them is possibly the best answer.
本次古树文明与人居未来国际建筑设计竞赛由英国皇家建筑师学会RIBA发起，凯森控股主办，锐建协商务咨询（上海）有限公司执行，designverse设计宇宙&Young Bird Plan嫩鸟计划战略合作，面向全球设计领域人群发布。
Ancient Tree Civilization and Residence Future International Architectural Design Competition is initiated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), organized by Kaisen Holding Group and executed by RIBA WFOE. With designverse and Young Bird Plan as strategic cooperative partners, this competition is released and open to all individuals and groups in global design fields.
设计场地为凯森千年古树园，位于广东省惠州市博罗县柏塘镇平安村，总占地面积约400亩。地处象头山国家自然保护区西北山麓，山丘环抱，古木参天。
The site is located at Kaisen Thousand Year Ancient Trees Garden in Pingan Village, Baitang Town, Boluo County, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, China. The total area is about 26.27ha. It is on the northwestern hillside of Guangdong Xiangtoushan National Nature Reserve and is embraced by numerous hills and mountains as well as ancient trees.

项目地处粤港澳大湾区1.5小时经济圈内，距离G0422新博高速平安高速出口仅3公里，交通便利。
The project is located in the 1.5 hour economic circle of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, China. It is merely 3 kilometers away from the Pingan Highway Exit of G0422 Xinbo Highway. The transportation is convenient.

项目以千年古树园为核心，辐射周边古洞村、平南村、蕉木村三个村庄范围约2万亩，沿S244国道三个村庄交通可达性良好。
The project, with the focus on the Thousand Year Ancient Trees Garden, radiates to the surrounding land of approximately 1333.33ha including three villages – Gudong Village, Pingnan Village and Jiaomu Village. The accessibility of transportation to three villages along the national road S244 is good.

凯森千年古树园古树环绕，有拯救而来的菩提、紫薇、秋枫等名贵树种两百余棵，胸径一两米，甚至粗达三米多。“古树安家 千年守护”。古树园正在创造一个物质、信息、能量的自然引力场，并致力于保护古树名木生命延续与文化传承；守护“文明活化石”、探索人类的回归与生态共存；构建古树文化与艺术研究；以及践行古树可持续产业的实践。
The Kaisen Thousand Year Ancient Trees Garden is embraced by numerous ancient trees including over two hundred precious famous trees of the saved Ficus religiosa and Lagerstroemia speciose and Bischofia javanica, with diameter at breast height of 1~2 meters and even more than 3 meters. “Home in ancient trees, protection for thousand years.” The Ancient Trees Garden is creating a natural gravitational field of physical things, information and energy, and aims at protecting ancient trees and famous trees for its longevity and cultural inheritance. It protects a living fossil of civilization, explores the coexistence between humans’ return and ecology, establishes the research on ancient trees’ culture and art, and puts the sustainable ancient trees industry into practice.
本次千年古树森林庄园建筑设计竞赛希望参赛独立设计师/设计师团体能够充分考虑场地内建筑与作为IP的众多古树之间的关系。突出本次竞赛主题——即守护、回归、传承。古树文明、人与树及自然的关系将作为本次设计的核心探索与追求。设计师需围绕这一主题展开设计。
The entrants(individuals/groups) of this competition are expected to fully consider the relationship of the buildings within the site and numerous ancient trees as IP. The theme of this competition, i.e., protection, return, inheritance, shall be expressed obviously. The relation of ancient trees’ civilization, humans and trees as well as nature is the core exploration and pursuit of this design. Designers shall design on the basis of this theme.

设计者需注重生态建筑学的设计原理、设计方法和技术途径；设计时应考虑古树园这一特定生态人文环境，建筑物总体布局应以极致化的天人合一为理念，力求将建筑与树、山、水协调统一和谐共生，倡导人类回归森林，构建人类精神家园与心灵归属。
Designers shall focus on the design principle, design method and technical route of ecological architecture, and fully consider the specific ecological and cultural environment of this Ancient Trees Garden. The general layout of buildings shall be based on the ultimate expression of the idea that man is an integral part of nature. The design shall strive for the harmonious coexistence of buildings, trees, mountains and water, promote humans’ return to forests, construct home for humans’ spirit and soul.
构建“人与树”自然合一新生态——构建最适合古树生长的建筑环境与生态系统；形成强大的自然生态能量场；创造大湾区极致生态的生活方式；打造最前沿的科技生态保护系统和科技生活系统。

1. 古树文明、人与大树及自然的关系将作为本次设计的核心探索与追求。围绕这一主题展开设计——即满足和解决古树庄园立意成为国际一流文教、公益、养怡庄园配置所具有的特点、设计趋向和独特要求。
The relation of ancient trees’ civilization, humans and trees as well as nature is the core exploration and pursuit of this design. Design is based on this theme, i.e., it meets the demand and provides a solution for ancient trees manor as an international manor of culture, education, charity, wellness at first level with special characters of design.
2. 本项目应积极体现整体庄园氛围，使人身临其境的感受自然之美、古树之美、人文关怀、卓越品质。
This project should reveal actively the atmosphere of an entire manor which immerses people in an aesthetic environment of nature and ancient trees as well as humanitarian excellence.
3. 本项目中建筑与大树景观之间关系的处理尤为重要。从交通组织、开放空间、内外之间的过渡、基地条件、自然资源等角度，处理单体建筑与所处环境之间的关系。设计对环境产生积极效应的建筑。
To deal with the relation of buildings and big trees’ landscape is especially important. To deal with the relation of a unit and its surroundings from angles of traffic organization, open space, the transition of indoors and outdoors, site condition, nature resources, etc. Buildings are designed to bring active impacts on environment.

4. 设计师需合理关注建筑空间组合原理、内外交通流线及功能构成，充分考虑内外环境的衔接与融会。
Designers should reasonably focus on the combination principle of building space, traffic circulation of inside and outside, function organization, and fully consider the connection and integration of environment indoors and outdoors.
5. 同时，设计需满足各建筑的功能要求，材料、构造与结构、消防、物理环境等技术要求；树立全面的建筑设计观念（空间环境、造型塑造、技术建构等方面的统一）
Meanwhile, design should meet the requirements of building functions and the technical requirements of materials, construction and structure, fire protection, physical environment, etc.; erect an overall idea of architectural design (unity of space environment, style shaping, technical construction, etc.).
6. 在单体设计的过程中，根据参赛者设计理念，和实际使用需求，对基地的平面规划提出优化方案。
An optimized scheme on site plan should be provided in the design of a unit according to the entrant’s design idea and the actual needs of usage.

7. 设计需重视形式处理、造型塑造、立面设计、材料表皮和细部表达，营造既有个性特色、又与环境融合的建筑形态。
Designers should pay attention to form treatment, style shaping, elevation design, material of outer skin and expression of details, and create a unique building that integrates into its environment.
8. 设计过程中需结合基地古树自然环境，合理处理人、车及货物流线，合理确定主、次出入口、工作人员出入口、货物出入口、垃圾污物出口、停车场等位置，避免人车、人货干扰。
Designers should combine the design with the natural environment of ancient trees, reasonably deal with circulation of humans, vehicle and goods, reasonably determine the main and subsidiary entrance/exit, staff entrance/exit, goods entrance/exit, garbage/sewage exit, parking, etc. to avoid the disturbance of humans and vehicle, humans and goods.

9.在和谐处理作为IP的古树/自然景观/造物与建筑关系的同时，考虑方案整体与项目其他建筑部分形成对话及和谐。
Designers should fully consider the harmonious dialogue between the overall scheme and other buildings of this project when dealing well with the relationship of ancient trees as IP/natural landscape/the buildings within the site.
10.与第9点同步整体考虑与两万亩康养规划之间的互动关系，通过建筑设计及运作模式等分析研究本次竞赛项目的设计成果与整体规划之间相互推动的可能性与因果关系。
To synchronize with the article 9 stated above, the interactive relation of the 1333.33ha land panning of wellness and the overall scheme should be fully considered. Through analysis of architectural design and operation model, designers should study the possibility and the relation of cause and effect regarding the mutual upgrading of the design result of this competition and the entire planning.

The scheme should appropriately deal with partition of functions, circulation organization, big tree landscape and space layout, pay attention to the combination of inside and outside environment, deal well with the transition of space indoors and outdoors as well as the relation of permeability, and consider energy saving and sustainable development. The quantity of floors are determined by designers, but it shall not be too tall. The architectural style reveals the local characters and the characteristics of the times. Design should comply with relative design rules in China. It should express the solemn atmosphere of the entire manor through the landscape and the cluster of buildings.

根据竞赛概念及设计目标，设定以下基本评估原则：
1.空间功能及组合原则：根据前述设计要求，需在设计中体现各不同功能的设计原型及推演逻辑，并充足表现其形式和功能；
2.充分考虑自然及古树IP：根据前述命题概念及设计要求，需充分考虑场地/植被/气候等各种场地文脉及自然环境条件，响应相关内容进行设计；
3.可持续影响原则：根据前述命题概念，该项目为首期项目，需结合后期开发的需求整体考虑，以达成首期带动后期的目的；
4.成本可控原则：在坚固、实用、美观的原则下，成本控制可作为评分标准之一；
5.环保及可持续原则：在以上评估原则之后，环保及可持续原则将成为考量标准依据之一。
除以上原则外，设计方案应妥善处理功能分区、流线组织、大树景观及空间布局，注重室内外环境结合，处理好室内外空间过渡与渗透关系，同时考虑节能和可持续发展。建筑层数自定，但不宜太高。建筑造型体现地方和时代特色，设计应符合国家有关的设计规范。需要表达整体庄园的氛围，通过景观及建筑集群的表现。
According to the competition concept and design goals, the basic evaluation principles are set as follows:
1. Principle of space function and combination: According to the design challenges stated above, design shall reveal the prototype of different functions and evolution logic, and fully express the forms and functions.
2. Fully consider nature and ancient trees as IP: According to the proposition concept and the design challenges stated above, fully consider various elements of the site culture and natural conditions including site/plantings/climate etc. in response to related design.
3. Principle of sustainable influence: According to the proposition concept stated above, this project is the initial phase project, and the future phase should be combined to consider the overall needs and achieve the goal of the initial phase driving the future phase.
4. Principle of cost control: Based on the principle of solid, pragmatic, beauty, the cost control is adopted as one of the evaluation criteria.
5. Principle of environmental protection and sustainability: After the consideration of all the principles stated above, the principle of environmental protection and sustainability will be deemed as one of the evaluation criteria.
Beside the principles stated the above, the scheme should appropriately deal with partition of functions, circulation organization, big tree landscape and space layout, pay attention to the combination of inside and outside environment, deal well with the transition of space indoors and outdoors as well as the relation of permeability, and consider energy saving and sustainable development. The quantity of floors are determined by designers, but it shall not be too tall. The architectural style reveals the local characters and the characteristics of the times. Design should comply with relative design rules in China. It should express the solemn atmosphere of the entire manor through the landscape and the cluster of buildings.
1.方案需整体呈现于不少于4张A2纵向图纸上，要求图纸清晰，标注可读（页边距8mm），包含：
-内容构成：
1）设计图：中英文或英文设计说明，总平面，总平面规划功能分析图，流线组织关系，功能详解及推演，其他分析图，平立剖及透视，场景细节等；
2）彩色效果图：
鸟瞰图2张需表达整体庄园的氛围，通过景观及建筑集群的关系表现。未列入单体设计要求的其他建筑体块，可由设计师决定如何表达，以配合实现整体氛围呈现的完整。
单体效果图 每栋单体1～2张包括：YD-01，YD-07，YD-08，YD-11（或选YD-13），YD-14，YD-16/17。
3）建筑设计说明：设计理念、总平面布局与环境设计、单体建筑构思、功能、造型、结构选型、技术经济指标等。
*需要通过分析图及文字对方案进行详尽阐述，确认方案清晰可读。
2.提交两版资料：资料A为JPG格式，每张图纸大小不超过10M；资料B为原始高分辨率PDF；
3.参赛方案自行命名，命名尽量简洁，请按照“报名号-方案名称”格式命名文件夹；
4.作品提交语言：中英双语或英语；
5.所有图纸和文字说明在线提交时，需将作品放置在主办方提供边框内；
6.4张图纸尽量按照总图-分析-单体-局部方式进行排布，可酌情自行调整；
7.封面：作品需上传封面，封面为作品的主视觉，尺寸为1045*654，72dpi，2MB以内.
1. A scheme shall be presented in at least four A2 sheets in a clear, vertical way and in readable format (with a 8mm page margin) and include following parts:
-Descriptive text on concept within 1200 words, economic and technical indicators;
-Registration No. shall be put in the bottom right corner of the sheets, in Arial 20pt font;
-Contents are as below:
1) The drawings should be with caption in English and Chinese, and include site plan, master plan with function analysis, circulation organization relation drawing, function details and evolution diagram, other diagrams, plan, elevation, section, perspective drawing, scene details, etc.
2) Color renderings:
Two renderings of aerial view shall fully express an atmosphere of the whole manor via presenting the relation of the landscape and the cluster of buildings. Other buildings which are not listed in the design of units could be expressed by the designers at will to fit the completeness of the whole atmosphere.
1-2 rendering(s) for each unit include: YD-01, YD-07, YD-08, YD-11(or YD-13), YD-14, YD-16/17.
3) Descriptive text on architecture design: design idea, general layout and environmental design, unit building concept, function, style, structure scheme, technical and economic indicators, etc.
*Through diagrams and text, the scheme shall be narrated in details and be sure of its clarity and readability.
2. Two versions of materials shall be submitted. Sheets of Version A in JPG format (no larger than 10MB for each) can be submitted; Sheets of Version B in PDF format (original high definition for each) can be submitted.
3. A scheme title shall be named as simple as possible; the scheme shall be saved in the "registration No. – scheme title – sheet No.1/No.2/No.3/No.4" format;
4. A scheme shall be submitted in bilingual (English and Chinese) or English;
5. When submitting all drawings and text online, work shall be placed within the frame provided by the host;
6. It is best to submit four drawings according to the order of general plan – diagrams –unit – partial. It can be adjusted under certain circumstance；
7. The cover must be submitted online which is the key visual of your design work; it must be uploaded in the size of 1045×654 pixels, 72 dpi, less than 2MB.

参与作品必须是参赛者个人原创作品，不能侵犯任何第三方个人和单位的任何专利权、著作权、商标权及其他合法知识产权。一旦查实非原创作品，主办单位有权立即取消其参与、入围与资助资格，收回资助资金物资及保留追究法律责任的权利，如主办单位因此被起诉或产生其他损失的，主办单位有权要求该参赛者进行全额赔偿，主办单位已先行赔付的，有权向参赛者追偿所有直接损失及间接损失(包括且不限于律师费、诉讼费、保全费、鉴定费、公证费等)。
2．同意声明
本次采用线上评选的方式，参赛者上传作品即表示同意授权主办单位为举办大赛目的向所有人署名或隐名的形式展示作品，同意大赛确定的评选方式。参赛者提交作品之前，已仔细阅读所有条款，充分理解并表示同意，本次大赛的评委会拥有对所有获奖作品的评选结果有最终裁定权。

In accordance with applicable laws and regulations, by participating in this competition, each Entrant irrevocably agrees to abide by the below statements about the copyrights for all submissions.
1. Statement of Originality
All submissions must be original, and each Entrant shall ensure that his/her entry does not infringe any third party’s rights, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and so on. Otherwise, the Entrant will be disqualified from the competition, and the organizer will withdraw all the sponsorship money and materials and reserve the right to investigate and affix legal liability of infringement. All damages and losses arising there from shall be borne by the Entrant; and all the direct and indirect damages (including but not limited to attorney fees, legal fees, costs of preservation, appraisal costs, notarial fees, and so on) suffered by the organizer shall be compensated by the Entrant.
2. Statement of Consent
By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to publicly display the works, and accepts the online selection process. And before uploading a submission, each Entrant must confirm that he/she has read and fully understands all of the clauses, and accepts them. The judging panel reserves the right to make a final decision on entry assessment and award list.
