Youngbird新办公室位于一个旧厂房改造而来的办公园区，这里原来是上海钢琴厂旧址。二楼的两个相邻的坡顶房间，YoungBird打算把这里简单装修改造为他们的新工作场所。
The new premises of YoungBird is located in a business park redeveloped from the original site of the Shanghai Piano Company. YoungBird has intended to renovate into its new office the two ordinary adjacent rooms with pitched roofs on the second floor.
高矮两个坡屋顶 | Roofs of different heights
这两个相邻的房子原来都是普通的坡顶房子，简单的轻钢屋架结构，室内空间一高一低，相互紧靠在一起，原来仅靠一个小门连通。
The rooms that have simple light steel roof trusses are connected to each other by a single tiny door.
改造前 | Before renovation
改造工作并不复杂，主要是空间整理与调整。
首先是划分空间的使用布局，两间房间，高的一间作为主要的工作场所，低的一间作为多功能室、管理办公及辅助用房。低的坡顶房间内部居中有一个废弃的大通风道，被整理出来作为新办公室的财务室，围绕着通风道在它的西侧布置了办公室以及辅助空间，在东侧留出了一块公共活动的多功能空间。主入口在高的房间，入口与室内有一个1.5米高差，一条坡道将人首先引到低房间多功能室，从那里再去相关的工作场所。
The work which mainly involves spacial readjustment is not complex.
The first step is to determine the spatial layout, which makes the higher room the major office space, and the other the multipurpose room, supervision and auxiliary rooms. At the centre of the lower room is a huge dilapidated ventilation shaft which has been turned into the accounting room. Another office and auxiliary space have been built to the west of the shaft and a multipurpose space set aside for public activities to the east. There is a 1.5-metre height difference between the main entrance that lies in the higher space and the ground. A ramp thus leads people to the multipurpose space within the lower space and then relevant office spaces.

空间调整的第二项重要处理是把左右两个原来相互隔绝的房子尽量在感受上连通起来。在山墙上面开了三个洞口：左右两个洞口作为使用上的门洞，中间的大洞口与天窗结合在一起作为空间连通的主要元素，这个空间事实上是用虚拟长方体在山墙屋顶交接处相交“减”出来的形式。在这个形似小天井的洞口空间里可以看见高低房间的轻钢屋架重叠，有意思的空间景观把两个房间联系在一起。
Another significant rearrangement is to make one feel that the once isolated spaces are integrated as much as possible. Three holes have been thus cut on the gable, with two at both sides serving as actual doors and the large central one, along with the skylight, as the major element designed to connect the spaces. The overlapped light steel roof trusses can be seen through the tiny-patio-like hole. The two spaces are connected by amusing spacial landscape.

空间调整的第三件事是利用东部的阳台空间扩展搭建了一个小型的会议室，补充了办公空间的功能需要，简单的搭建自然地混同在周围的城市环境里。
The next thing is to build a small meeting room through extension of the terrace at the east, which complements programs for the office space and naturally fits into the surrounding built environment with its simple structure.
空间调整的第四个方面是做了个性化色彩设计。室内采用了嫩鸟logo的主题颜色，嫩绿色与黄色。屋顶、梁架被喷成了嫩绿色，室内的坡道以及通风井外表涂成了黄色。
Personalized color design has also been incorporated. The theme color of YoungBird logo has been used, with the roofs and beams painted verdancy while the ramp and shaft yellow.

最后是灯光设计，采用了普通的日光灯，不同功能的房间用日光灯处理成不同的情境。主要的办公部分布置了平行的光线，让一条条平行的光线整齐地划过办公室的上空。多功能空间采用交错的光线，这些大小不同的光线交错在一起形成丰富的上部空间。
The last step is lighting design where ordinary fluorescent lamps are used. Distinct atmospheres are thus created for rooms with different programs. Parallel lighting is designed for the major office space, with rays of light neatly streaking across the upper space and overlapped lighting for the multipurpose space, creating rich space experience.
