【要闻转载】美国“沉浸式中文学校”什么样?小学生能用流利汉语讲数学题
最近“沉浸式”这个词蔓延到了美妆、吃播、搞笑视频等领域。
Zhaoting Xia, a 29-year-old teacher, holds paper copies of Chinese currency and invites kids up one at a time to use the "money" to purchase something from her pretend fruit stand. 夏朝婷(音)老师今天29岁,她手里拿着中国货币的复印件,挨个点名叫孩子们起身,用“钱”从她的假水果摊购买水果。 All of this takes place in Chinese. 这一切都用汉语进行。
Full immersion means that pre-k students are fully immersed in Chinese all day–5 days per week. Students in kindergarten through 5th grade learn all subjects in both Chinese and English. “沉浸”意味着学前阶段的学生整个沉浸在全天的中文环境中——每周五天。从幼儿园到五年级的学生则用中文和英文来学习所有科目。

One of the students, a 5-year-old boy, picks out his money and greets Xia with "ni hao," starting the conversation as he has been taught. Then he works in some vocabulary words to ask for a plastic ear of corn. 有个5岁的男学生拿出钱来,按照教他的那样,开始对话,跟夏老师打招呼:“你好。” 接着为了买塑料的谷穗,他用起了词表词汇来组织语言。 She tells him the price, and he counts the money in his hand before making the exchange. They finish with "xiexie" or "thank you." 夏老师跟他说了价钱,接着他就开始在手里数钱,然后进行了交易。双方以“谢谢”和 “thank you”结束了对话。 In this one exercise, they've practiced vocabulary, sentence structure, math and culture. 在这一个训练中,他们练习了词汇、句子结构、数学、以及文化。
"I need them to pay full attention," Xia said. "I give them a big smile, a thumbs-up when they are doing something right. I give them strict eyes when they are doing something wrong. While doing that, I also speak Chinese. They listen more and begin to associate with it the Chinese words." 夏老师称:“我得要他们完全集中注意力。他们表现不错,我就会给他们一个开心的笑,还会竖大拇指。不过如果他们不守纪律,我也会严厉地瞪人。管纪律的时候也说中文。听得多了他们就会开始把纪律的含义和特定中文词汇联系起来。”
“Chinese is a very widely spoken language. And they get exposure to a whole new culture.” Leonard also expects being bilingual to be good for her daughter academically. "Parents always want the best," she said. "If you set them up early, they will be successful." “汉语是一种使用广泛的语言。而且他们能接触到一种全新的文化。”莱纳德还希望掌握双语对女儿的学业有好处。“父母总是想要最好的,” 她说:“如果你尽早为孩子做准备,他们会成功的。” Xia said bilingual education gives students a global perspective. "It is helpful to build up the concept of international thinking," Xia said. "They know how Chinese people think, act, behave, so they won't misunderstand one day when they have a Chinese coworker." 夏老师认为双语教育给学生提供了一个全球视野。她表示:“这有助于树立国际思维的概念。他们知道中国人的想法、行为和举止,那么如果有一天他们跟中国人共事,他们就不会产生误解。”
