英国皇家化学会前主席, 全球首位可持续化学教授｜会士论坛大会报告

面对环境污染、气候变化、能源短缺、健康威胁等诸多日益严峻的全球挑战问题，我们该如何实现绿色、低碳、可持续的发展之路？化学作为最重要的基础学科之一，在解决人类社会发展所面临的挑战方面能发挥哪些作用？

“第五届英国皇家化学会会士论坛”将于 2023 年 10 月 19-20 日在宁波诺丁汉大学举行，论坛主席为厦门大学田中群院士和宁波诺丁汉大学副校长吴韬教授。本次论坛将聚焦“产学研深度融合”，探讨如何通过产学研融合推动相关学科的发展与进步，如何促进多学科合作及环境可持续发展等相关议题。





本次论坛邀请到英国皇家化学会前主席、全球首位可持续化学教授、RSC Sustainability 期刊主编、伦敦帝国理工学院 Tom Welton 教授在此次论坛上做大会报告，主题为：“Developing Greener Chemistry: from the fundamental to the applied”。报告时间：10 月 19 日 10:10–10:30，欢迎报名线上参与！ 

Tom Welton 教授

Tom Welton FRSCThomas Welton is Professor of Sustainable Chemistry at Imperial College London. He served as Head of the Department of Chemistry from 2007 to 2014 and as Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences from 2015 to 2019. He is a Fellow and served as President of the Royal Society of Chemistry from 2020 to 2022, during which he championed the contribution of the Chemical Sciences to achieving a sustainable future. Tom is the author of over 150 research papers across the range of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry journals, mostly on the structures and chemistry of ionic liquids and solutes in these. He is particularly interested in using ionic liquids for the conversion of biomass to chemicals and materials. 

Tom is widely acknowledged to be a champion of diversity in science and was head of department when the Chemistry department at Imperial College won its first Athena SWAN Gold award. Together with Alison Roger of the University of Warwick, he founded the Irene Juliot-Curie conference series. He is a L’Oréal-UNESCO Male Champion for Women in Science. In recognition of these activities, he was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2017. Tom is active in advocating for greater visibility for members of the LGBT community in the sciences. He is a member of the UKRI Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion External Advisory Group.
