外媒尬聊狗年，刚说到属狗的年份就算不清了...... 谈起“本命年犯太岁”也是话风清奇

一过年谈及生肖，外国小伙伴就“慌乱”，2015年纠结羊年的“羊”到底是Goat还是Sheep；2017鸡年，纠结到底是Chicken、Rooster、Hen还是Cock。
今年狗年，简单明了“ the Year of the Dog”，没毛病。
然而，外国小伙伴又开始纠结别的问题了。两天前，英国《独立报》发表了一篇题为《2018中国新年：狗年的真正含义》的文章，作者为David Barnett 。
文章中，作者David因为自己属狗，今年本命年而开始忧心，听说“本命年”犯太岁。
今年是狗年！我的本命年！
It’s the Year of the Dog! That’s my birth year!
David说，可是我完全没法欢呼雀跃呀~
随后我发现我心有戚戚然是有原因的。正如我所想， 这根本不是一个好兆头。十二生肖循环往复，如果你的出生属相与本年的生肖动物一致，实际上是非常不好的。
It was only later I found out why. Rather than being a good omen, as I’d assumed, the dominant Chinese zodiac year for those whose birthdates match up to the animal in the 12-year cycle is actually very unlucky indeed.
后来，这位小伙伴又认真研究了下中国年的算法。惊奇发现，他属鸡，心情豁然开朗。
好在故事有个好结局。中国年2月16号开始，我生日是在1月，所以，事实上我属鸡。
However, there is a happy end to this story – Chinese New Year begins on 16 February, and my birthday is in January, so I’m actually a rooster.
但是，热心的David还是很仗义的，没有因为自己突然属鸡就弃剩下属狗的小伙伴于不顾。
他先是告诉了外国小伙伴，哪些人属狗。但是，其实David自己也没有搞清楚。
可是，剩下的小伙伴，如果你出生在1934年、1958年、1970年、 1982年、 1994年、 2016（应该是2006）年 或者 2010的2月16日到来年的2月4日，这个时间段里......
For the rest of you, though, who were born between next Friday and 4 February 2019 in the years 1934, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2016 or 2010…
（大概David并不清楚，每年的农历起始和结束时间都不一样。不是每年我们都2月16过年哦~所以这样定义是错的。）
随后他开始给属狗的朋友们支招怎样才能本命年不犯太岁，过上太平的生活。
哎~我劝你哈~在接下来的一年里努力避开红色，还要避开1、3、9这三个数字。
well, all I’ll say is try to avoid the colour red in the coming year, and steer clear of the numbers one, three and nine.
CD君（ID：chinadailywx）看完这些招式，开始怀疑自己是不是假中国人了。往年一到本命年，CD君就把自己穿得跟红灯笼一样，红袜子、红内衣、红腰带，通红通红的，什么时候开始讲究避开红色了？吓唬本宝宝呢吧！
幸亏文章里的2016，让CD君重拾了作为一名中国人的自信。1994（狗年）＋12（生肖一轮）=2006（狗年）。写出2016，这数学绝对不是中国老师教的。 （难怪梅姨要亲自来华引进中国数学教育......）
关于要本命年要避开1、3、9这三个数字，CD君从未听说过，但David讲得不亦乐乎，还颇具英式幽默地举了个例子，
如果你住伦敦，要长期乘坐139路公交车从Golders Green到Waterloo，砸重金买双运动鞋吧，这样更明智一些。 （就因为139路公交车有1、3、9这三个数字！好冷）
So if you live in London and catch the 139 bus from Golders Green to Waterloo on a regular basis, it might be prudent to invest in a pair of walking boots.
CD君（微信ID：chinadailywx）简单搜了下路线图，感觉一双运动鞋扛一年显然不够呀！
David突然惊醒，有一个大人物属狗呀！ 犯太岁！
如果你是一名属狗的宝宝，你不孤单！可能最有名的属狗人士中当属美国总统特朗普了。
If you are a dog, you’re not alone. Perhaps the most high-profile dog is none other than the US President, Donald Trump.
然后，英国《独立报》找到一张太原广场上的照片，指出这张照片上的狗狗也是金色的头发，称雕塑的造型跟Potus (美国总统)惊人相似。 （a striking resemblance to Potus）
当然，没人会在狗年对唐纳德·特朗普怀有恶意，况且，狗年也不一定意味着厄运。
Of course, you won’t be wishing ill on Donald Trump in the Year of the Dog, and to be fair, it doesn’t necessarily mean bad luck.
紧接着，David举出了一系列名人的例子为狗年的小伙伴宽心，包括猫王、克林顿。
比如，猫王，埃尔维斯·普雷斯利，出生在1935年1月，属狗。他69年时东山再起，1970年本命年的时候再次声名鹊起。
Take Elvis Presley, who weren’t nuthin’ but a hound dog despite being born in 1935 (he just squeaked in because, like me, his birthday was in January). After his big comeback in 1969, dog year 1970 was a big one for him as his re-booted reputation grew immensely.
跟特朗普一样，比尔·克林顿也曾在本命年，1994年，第一任期内，入住白宫一年，所以今年特朗普应该不会太糟。
Bill Clinton was, as is Trump, a year into what would turn out to be his first term of office in the White House in 1994, so he was probably not having too bad a year.
文章还列举了一系列属狗的名人。
Other famous dogs include Dame Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Alan Rickman, David Bowie, Steven Spielberg, both Prince William and Kate Middleton, Justin Bieber, Madonna.

David还解释了为何一向在中国文化中很受欢迎的猫为何不在十二生肖之列。
You might be thinking that notable by its absence is the cat, which is usually well represented in Chinese culture
故事要从混沌初分的远古时代说起，玉皇大帝下令为十二地支选拔十二个属相。于是，普召天下动物到他的宫殿去，第一批抵达的方可上肖。
Well, there is of course a story to that, for which we must go back to the far ancient times when the Jade Emperor decreed that the earthly calendar would be represented by 12 animals, and ordered the beasts and birds of the world to rock up to his palace, the first dozen getting the job.
那时候，猫和老鼠是很要好的朋友，他俩决定一同前往玉皇大帝的宫殿在十二生肖中争得一席之地。
So the story goes, the cat and the rat were huge pals back in those days, and decided to journey together to the Jade Emperor’s palace to take up their places on the zodiac.
可是，很显然，老鼠独自前往，忘了叫醒熟睡的猫（当然，如果你相信......）。当小猫咪终于从床上爬起来时，他的老鼠朋友已经在路上了。
But apparently the rat forgot to wake up his friend (yeah, right, if you believe that…) and set off on his own. When the kitty finally dragged itself out of bed, friend rat was well on his way.
这就算了，老鼠还结识了一些新朋友，尤其是公牛，他同意让老鼠在他的背上一起度过漫漫长路。
Not only that, but he’d made some new pals, notably the ox, who agreed to carry the rat on his back on the long journey.
一到玉皇大帝的宫殿，老鼠欢欣雀跃，跳下来，第一个穿过大门。
Once they got to the Jade Emperor’s palace, the rat was all like, yeah, cheers for the ride, hopped off and was the first one through the gates.
虽然，老鼠和牛的恩仇没有延续至今，但是如果你想想猫为啥如此痛恨老鼠，你应该就能找到答案了。
The animosity between oxen and rats isn’t well recorded, but if you ever wondered why cats hate rats, then there’s your answer.
2018年是戊戌狗年。光说英语里的dog，我们就有五种说法。
犬：成年狗
獒：体型大的狗
献：给祖宗的狗
猗：可能指你家宠物
尨：多毛狗
因此，中国文化的博大精深，也不是一两个小故事就能说清楚的。
