I came back to the US on Jan 23. At that time, I was thinking about what could I do to help. And then I realized I could perform.
Within 10 days before our performance, I collected a lot of videos for inspiration. I reorganized those videos constructed a storyline. I shared Chinese experiences during the outbreak with the American audience.
It’s getting worse day by day. The number of confirmed cases rose from 3 to 8 to 80. I think today we’ve just surpassed 100 confirmed cases in the state of Massachusetts.
Culture played a role in it. The same applies to handshaking. It’s hard to avoid shaking hands for many people here. But we need to find solutions to those cultural problems.
NBA and MLB suspended their games and Disney has closed. Many schools and art centers have imposed small-scale lockdowns.
So a lot of facilities have been closed recently. All I hope is our self-quarantine measures will be effective enough and quick enough to contain the virus.
Actions taken in China were critical.
My video was reported by American news media and got many views on YouTube as well. I think Americans realize that it's important to stay positive during self-isolation, like many Chinese did.
If we need to stay at home for a while, then at least we can get inspired on learn how to kill time, so we won’t go crazy.
Similarities between northeasterners in China and the US I think they both talk loudly. They are not easily swayed. They're not shy and they can drink a little more..
Newton has a population of 80,000. That number may not qualify it to be a city in China, but in the US it is. In this town of 80,000 residents,5,000 joined our walk that day.
I think the best way for Americans to change their biased views about China is to get to know more Chinese. Americans can travel to China after the pandemic is over, or they can spend more time on Chinese social media platforms and TV programs.
I spend a lot of time in the US and in China, so I feel that if most Americans and Chinese have the chance to know each other, they’ll become good friends.
