Houses are much more than hotels.

They are coloured and created by the unique individuals who go there.

They bring a unique perspective to their world and their experience at every House…

Anywhere you go in The Middle House is a source of inspiration, everywhere you look an elegant detail, from the spiral staircase to corridors that take notes from both Chinese and Italian influences, and the colour palette is just a great match for any outfit you might have in mind.

The guest rooms are also full of surprises. Giant windows showing off the city lights, and dumbbells in the walk-in wardrobe as a friendly reminder to keep fit whilst you’re on holiday. To top it all off there’s “Mr. Goodnight”, a beautiful giant tassel hanging by the bed. Just one pull to switch off all the lights in the room!

In Hong Kong where space is at a premium, The Upper House’s room sizes starting from 68 sqm is a remarkable move that has long since made its mark on hotel history.

In his book exploring hotels of the world, the Japanese architect Ura Kazuya’s sketch of his Studio 70 room allows us a view of the design philosophy at The Upper House, where the most ‘basic’ room features twice the amount of space as what most luxury hotels offer, half of which is dedicated to the bathroom.

The bathtub is centre stage, enjoying expansive views of either Victoria Harbour or the verdant hills of the Peak. This bathroom, in which one can very well spend a comfortable night, offers not just an elevated bathing experience but a dramatic shift of mindset.

From its finely crafted concept to its sensitivity to space, The Upper House is a striking case study of reinventing the “luxury hotel”.

My eyes lit up from the moment I stepped into The Temple House. Unlike the usual glamorous lobbies at other hotels, The Temple House’s entrance is set in a century-old traditional Chinese courtyard. Set amongst a peaceful bamboo forest, modern architecture and Chinese traditions play off each other beautifully.

Poet Bian Zhilin wrote, "Standing on the bridge you look out at the scenery, not knowing that the people watching the scenery are looking at you." Here at The Temple House, I experienced something of the same effect. Outside the windows is the perfect combination of the modern city and peaceful traditional courtyards.

Art isn’t just a lofty form of creation; it’s a way and mindset of approaching everyday life. You feel it in the design of The Opposite House, where a respect for space meets a youthful energy.

As the sun moves over the hours of the day, light and shadow shift to reveal varying textures and moods. It calls for us to observe its changes, to simply be in the moment.

For us city-dwellers, The Opposite House offers a soft and gentle world where nature and concrete meet in unison.

And the best art and culture shouldn’t be confined to museums; they should be deeply connected to real life. In the atrium of The Opposite House, every season brings a new exhibition of contemporary art.

On show right now are works by German artist Arnd Christian Mueller. Fascinated by everyday objects, Mueller collects them, reimagines them in new forms to give them new meaning and a new way for audiences to connect with them.
