University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) Students Group Visit

 

On June 5, 14 members of University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) students group visited CNKI.

The visiting group is a biennial summer program for China Study initiated by Hung-Gay Fung, lifetime professor at College of Business Administration of UMSL, and organized in conjunction with Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The program is designed to understand the current situation of China's economic development and enterprise development. The visitors include Shen Jinjian, researcher at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Hung-Gay Fung, and  UMSL students.

CNKI International Publishing and Distribution Center and Higher Education Branch jointly received the visiting group and welcomed teachers and students with open arms. The group visited the digital processing center and had in-depth understanding about the overall process of CNKI digital processing service and its advanced technologies such as automatic typesetting, image scanning and processing, OCR recognition, intelligent indexing, etc.

Sharon Song, general manager of CNKI Global Marketing Department, introduced CNKI's resources, services and users, explained how to use search and articles analysis functions of CNKI databases to make a literature review, and demonstrated how to use the mobile application “ CNKI Express” to find academic documents in a timely and convenient manner. Claire Feng, general manager of CNKI Global China Studies Branch, took financial management and economics as examples, and showed the features of CNKI resources and the methods of finding professional academic documents, which effectively met the actual needs of visiting students in daily study and papers writing, and provided ideas for their future research. The discussion was particularly heated when “Journal Translation Project" (JTP) was introduced. The students considered it very meaningful to translate China high-quality journals into English. In addition, they expressed strong interest in CNKI products and services, and had in-depth exchanges on how to use them.
