How is the new semester going? Having fun surfing the Rain Classroom with your lecturers and classmates?

As you may know, we have a completely independent server opened for the “Rain Classroom”. Here we gathered some frequently asked questions and answers about the new server.

Why did we open a new server for the “Hetang Rain Classroom”? 

To ensure that the university’s teaching schedule is not disrupted by the novel coronavirus epidemic, and to maintain a high quality online learning platform that meets Tsinghua’s standards, we opened an independent server for the “Rain Classroom” platform, which is only accessible to Tsinghua students and faculty members.

Do lecturers need to reinstall the software specifically for the Tsinghua server? Is there any new functions?

Yes, they need to reinstall the software from https://pro.yuketang.cn.

The new software comes with a desktop-sharing function, so that lecturers can show what is on their computer desktop as well. In addition, the lectures can freely switch between the camera and desktop sharing. It also supports multiple cameras and extended computer screens.

Can lecturers use the public server after installing the “Hetang Rain Classroom”? 

Yes, they can. If the lecturers need to use the public server (i.e. when giving open courses or reports), they can switch back to the public server on the new software, so there is no need to install both servers.

Do students need to follow the WeChat account for the “Hetang Rain Classroom”? 

Yes, following the WeChat account of “荷塘雨课堂” is a necessary step for both the students and lecturers.

This is the official account for the Tsinghua server. Users who have already had their identity verified can use it directly. Otherwise, they need to complete the verification according to the instructions first.

Will the data on the public server be uploaded to the new server?

The independent server for the "Rain Classroom" has synchronized all data on the public server, which was uploaded before 12:00 noon, February 14, 2020. The data uploaded after should be uploaded again into the new sever.

Can users set up classes themselves, like they can on the public server?

Like on the public server, Tsinghua students and faculty can set up classes themselves, organizing some extra curriculum activities. However, those activities will only open to Tsinghua members. Non-Tsinghua members can participate via the public server.

How to visit the webpage for the “Hetang Rain Classroom”?

The website for the “Hetang Rain Classroom” is https://pro.yuketang.cn. It operates similarly as with the software.
