Tsinghua University hosts 3rd World Health Forum
Tsinghua University recently hosted the 3rd World Health Forum in Beijing, a significant event focused on the theme of "Preparing the World for the Next Pandemic." This forum was organized in partnership with the Tsinghua Vanke School of Public Health and the Tsinghua Institute for a Healthy China.
Renowned scholars, representatives from international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and experts from various think tanks came together for this event. They aimed to collectively gather insights from past pandemic management experiences, discuss strategies for improving global public health systems, and explore ways to provide robust technological support for the well-being of humanity.
Tsinghua University President Wang Xiqin emphasized the university's pivotal role in cultivating talent, advancing technological innovation, and promoting international cooperation to prepare for potential major risks. Margaret Chan, chairperson of the World Health Forum and founding dean of the Tsinghua Vanke School of Public Health, highlighted the significance of evaluating past pandemic responses and challenges. Lei Haichao, vice minister of the National Health Commission, underscored the importance of building a robust public health system. He emphasized the integration of medical treatment with preventive measures and improved coordination between disease prevention and control departments and communities.
Over 150 participants hailing from more than 14 countries and regions took part in this two-day forum. Among them were global scholars, industry leaders, academics, and futurists. They engaged in comprehensive discussions on a wide range of critical topics, including pandemic response measures implemented by different countries, strategies for international cooperation, and innovative health approaches.
The World Health Forum was initiated by Tsinghua University in 2021. Its primary objective is to provide a platform for dialogue, academic exchange, and the sharing of experiences. The forum's ultimate goal is to strengthen capacity building, develop global health governance systems, and contribute to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It aspires to play a role in the creation of a community of common health for mankind.
