Embracing diversity: a recap of global village 2024
The Global Village 2024 marks the beginning of the 12th Tsinghua University International Cultural Festival. With about 5000 participants gathered at the Zijing Playground, the atmosphere was full of excitement. Through cultural exchanges, participants promoted mutual understanding and forged lasting bonds across borders.
The event was graced by the presence of ambassadors from Bulgaria, Colombia, Georgia, Singapore, adding an international flair to the festivities.
In a performance of an inspiring drum show "Resonance,” 15 students from China, Malaysia, and Japan set the tone for the event with their opening performance.
The Global Village was divided into three main sections: Exhibition Booths, Main Stage, and Interactive Booths, each offering a unique experience for visitors.
The Main Stage captivated the audience with vibrant dance performances and the infectious energy of multinational bands. Indonesia’s synchronized dance was energetic and vibrant, Mongolia’s blend of traditional and modern elements created an audio-visual feast, and France’s choral performance charmed the crowd with its refreshing charm. The fusion of energetic music and dynamic dance routines created a mesmerizing spectacle for all in attendance.
Students from nearly 50 different nations worked together to create a total of 62 exhibition booths that showcased the rich diversity of cultures.
The Exhibition Area was a treasure trove of cultural experiences, with booths representing a variety of countries. The Spanish booth captivated visitors with lively tango performances, while the Myanmar booth engaged visitors with a traditional game of chinlone (cane ball). The Ghanaian booth featured enthusiastic dancing and served flavorful Jollof rice, drawing cheers from the crowd. Festival-goers immersed themselves in the experience, participating in traditional games, enjoying live music, and challenging themselves with foreign languages.
The Chinese section, consisting of ten booths, formed a vibrant "Chinese Street" that highlighted traditional culture, with vigorous calligraphy demonstrations receiving continuous praise.
Furthermore, the Interactive Area also offered activities with distinct Chinese characteristics. For those fond of riddles, calligraphy, or Tai Chi, this was the place to be. In this interactive zone, attendees not only indulged in a variety of culinary delights but also immersed themselves in Chinese cultural activities.
Global Village 2024 was more than just a cultural spectacle; it was a celebration of unity in diversity. As we embrace the differences that make our world unique, we are reminded of our shared humanity and the importance of working together toward a future of harmony and cooperation.
