Wellington College China pupils are making big achievements
From high examination scores to Oxbridge and Ivy League acceptances to outstanding performances in global academic competitions, Wellington College China pupils have been making great achievements this year. Here is a survey of some of their truly impressive accomplishments.
Technology
Wellington College Tianjin sent two teams to compete in this year’s Microsoft Imagine Cup Junior in the 'AI for Health' and 'AI for Accessibility' categories. They ranked in the top 30 of both categories and won a gold medal in the global finals.
Debate
Huili School Shanghai's debate team were outstanding competitors at this year's Shanghai Chen Hui Cup as they advanced all the way to the finals won the championship. Making this feat all the more impressive was the fact that they were the only Junior High School team to compete in a tournament intended for High School pupils.
The Huili Debate Team also competed in the National Chinese Language Debate Championship for High School Pupils, gaining first and third place in the Junior High School category.
The World Scholars Cup
This summer, pupils from Huili School performed exceptionally well in this year’s World Scholars Cup (WSC) in Shanghai, also known as the “Olympics of Academia”.
Pupils from Huili School Shanghai won a total of 106 medals, including 47 gold medals. Nine teams from Huili School Shanghai and two grade 9 pupils from Huili School Hangzhou advanced to the global finals. They will attend the World Scholar’s cup final at Yale University in the US next year.
Model United Nations
This year's Puxi MUN was held online in March. Three pupils from Wellington College International Shanghai won awards for 'Best Delegate for the General Assembly', 'Most Promising Delegate for the General Assembly' and 'Most Promising Delegate for the Disarmament Commission'.
During the summer, eight Junior High pupils from Huili School Hangzhou attended the final round of the CCMUN competition and gained not only the first prize as a school, but also secured first, second and third prize for individual performance as well as first prize for best paper.
Sports
Wellington College International Tianjin won three gold medals in the ISCOT Champions in football (boys and girls) and volleyball (girls) in Tianjin. Additionally, their golf scholars won three national titles, including the HSBC junior matchplay championship.
