“NUN(New United Nations-联合新国)地图勘测”项目,旨在邀请世界各地的人分享真实/虚构的故事。

The "NUN (New United Nations) Mapping" project aims to invite people from all over the world to share real/fictional stories. The artist acts as a medium of image production, hand-drawing these stories and making postcards to present to the storytellers.

The project is based on the NUN Map, a map of the world with land and sea upside down, in which established geographical knowledge and historical discourse are missing. The map became an open picture built from the stories told by many people who lived it. In response to the epidemic that continues to pervade today, the project began in 2020 with a collaboration with Los Angeles-based Bridge Projects, which captured the stories of 17 American friends through Zoom video conversations. Participants include artists, curators, composers, institution directors, gallery staff, academics, and more.

Two stories in the project

故事一

Story No.1

Story Teller: Antonio McAfee

Antonio McAfee has been reading of a text (put photos in the chat) “How the Sky God’s Stories Came to be Known as Spider Stories” from The Annotated African American Folktales by Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Maria Tatar.

The story of how the spider Anansi bought the sky god’s stories by capturing the python, the hornets, the leopard, and the fairy and bringing them to the sky god. In this version of the story he also brought his mother. The sky god blessed him and the sky god stories became known as spider stories instead.

故事二

Story No.2

Story Teller: Bonita Helmer

Sanctuary of Atotonilco just outside of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico with incredible baroque paintings and beautiful sculptures. It’s a World Heritage site often referred to as the “Sistine chapel of Mexico.” According to Bonita, the Sanctuary of Atotonilco is a magical place full of darkness and light, a place of abuse and healing and a deep history. It’s also a place to which many people make pilgrimages.

Bruce and his sister went to explore a side chapel while Bonita stayed in the main sanctuary. While she was there, she heard a noise, turned around, and suddenly there were hundreds of women coming into the sanctuary on their knees. She urgently started waving to Bruce and his sister to come and sneak out the side entrance with her—there were so many women that if they didn’t leave immediately they would be stuck! They were awed by the multitude of women making this pilgrimage.
