In recent years, there has been a notable upsurge in the demand for the Chinese language – both abroad and closer to home – leading to a heightened interest in the HSK, the most widely recognized Mandarin examination. The HSK – pronounced hanyu shuiping kaoshi in Chinese Pinyin – is a Chinese proficiency test. It's an international standardized test to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers – foreigners, overseas Chinese and members of ethnic minority groups in China.
