4 New Subway Lines Will Link Beijing with Cities in Hebei
It’s no secret that Beijing’s subway system is expanding at breakneck speed. We recently reported that a total of over 20 subway lines (or sections of lines) will be under construction in 2017. In total, that's over 350 kilometers of new subway lines.
And it looks like Hebei is following suit. In an effort to improve transportation between the capital and Hebei, four new subway lines will be constructed by 2021, China Daily reports. These new lines should help cut travel time between the capital and cities throughout Hebei to less than an hour. For many people who currently endure grueling and legthy commutes from Hebei to Beijing, this is sure to be welcome news.
Current plans of the new lines show that the Pinggu Line will connect Beijing's Pinggu and Tongzhou districts with Sanhe in Langfang, Hebei.
While the Pinggu Line is already under construction, the remaining three lines are still in their planning phases. According to planning officials, these lines will connect Yizhuang with downtown Langfang; Daxing with Gu'an in Langfang, and Fangshan with Zhuozhou in Baoding.
Because of the sheer number of commuters traveling between Hebei and Beijing on a daily basis, drastic improvements need to be made to the public transport system. RMB58 billion (USD8.4 billion) will be invested in creating roughy 80 km of lines in Hebei, including the Beijing-linked lines.
