Beijing West Railway Station Now Has Face Recognition Technology

Beijing has a thing for implementing cool technology into the city. We have wifi in public toilets, QR codes on city trash cans and now we have face recognition technology at our train stations.

Beijing West Railway Station is now beginning to implement the technology into their ticket check-in machines, Beijing Youth Daily reports.

Cool, right?

The face recognition system – which has already been installed at Beijing Railway Station – is expected to speed up the check-in process at Beijing West Railway Station. To use the new machines, passengers will need to insert their train tickets and second-generation ID cards, remove their hats and glasses, get their faces scanned by the camera – and they’re good to go.

Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to take advantage of the new technology. The red tickets without magnetic strips will not work in the new machines. Neither will tickets for students, disabled passengers, soldiers or children.

Oh, and if you’re shorter than 1.2 meters or taller than 1.9 meters, you’re out of luck too.
