Aug 10: Home Plate Pub Quiz

Head on down to Home Plate BBQ Sanlitun for its weekly Thursday pub quiz. Billed as a “social” event with questions based on “many topics” and open to people from all over, it sounds like a damn good time. The best part is the free entry plus tasty prizes including RMB300 worth of cocktail vouchers (first prize) and a RMB100 bucket of beer.

Thursdays, 9pm; free entry; Home Plate BBQ Sanlitun, 1/F, Unit 10, Electrical Research Institute, Nan Sanlitun Lu 朝阳区南三里屯路北京机电院10号1楼(工体北路凯福大厦正南) (5128 5584 / 400 096 7670)

Aug 11-20: Thai Food Festival

Who doesn't love Thai food? Seriously. Who? Unfortunately there's a dearth of authentic Thai restaurants in the city, but this week we can all get our Thai fix at Aroma. Starting Friday, the Ritz-Carlton, Beijing is partnering up with the Thai Embassy to invite Guest Chef Nueng from Phulay Bay, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Thailand, to showcase ultra-authentic Thai dishes. For 10 whole days Chef Nueng will serve up 10 dishes. Expect a range of curries, fresh larb runa, tom yum soup, Thai-style mojitos and more. If the food isn't incentive enough, guests will also have the chance to win a trip for two to the stunning Krabi, Thailand.

Aug 11-20. Lunch RMB368, Dinner RMB448, Brunch RMB618. Aroma, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, 83A Jianguo Lu, Chaoyang 丽思卡尔顿酒店1层 (6601 6666, 6629 6699, 5908 8161)
