Generation Gap: Do You Prioritize Fashion in Your Everyday Life?

By Vivian Liu

'Generation Gap' is a monthly series where we ask two Beijingers from two different generations their thoughts on a current issue. This time we ask Sun, 20s, and Yang, 70s, about fashion.

Do you prioritize fashion in your everyday life?

Sun, 20s

For me, it varies across seasons. I like to keep it simple. I’m not picky about what I wear during the springtime, but during summer I like to focus on keeping cool by wearing casual, comfortable garments and colors like white, green and blue. I keep my outfit refreshing and stay cool because I wear lighter colors. During the fall I’ll dress in whatever and even experiment – my sense of fashion isn’t at all restricted during this time. In winter I like to wear black and white, and long, warm coats.

Yang, 70s

I wear what I like and what I think is comfortable. Usually I’ll wear something very casual, though sometimes I’ll dress nicer if I’m in a good mood. What I wear also depends on the occasion. If I’m going out to meet friends, as opposed to going grocery shopping, I’ll want to look nicer.
