Generation Gap: What Do You Like About Living in Beijing?
By Vivian Liu
'Generation Gap' is a monthly series where we ask two Beijingers from two different generations their thoughts on a current issue. This time we ask Lei, 23, and Han, 59, about living in Beijing
What do you like about living in Beijing?
Lei, 23
I like the environment. By that I mean the urban vibe. I like how busy the city is, and how fresh everything is, especially compared to Jilin, where I’m from. Things there aren’t nearly as big or busy as they are here. The buildings, technology and work opportunities are better here too.
Han, 59
I like how Beijing has many interesting and historical sightseeing spots within the city itself. The areas around Houhai, Xihai and Beihai are great for a quick trip, even for local Beijingers like myself. I prefer to visit these places over the week because they’re too crowded during the weekend. The public transport is pretty convenient here too – we can easily access all the fun spots, which is great.
