Live Music Venues in Beijing Closed During Party Congress
Planning to catch any live music shows over the next couple weeks? You're out of luck. Live music venues in the capital are shut for the duration of the National Party Congress, according to Split Works' Krish Raghav.
It remains unclear whether venues were forced to close, or did so on their own terms. Says Michael Ohlsson of Dada Beijing and Shanghai, authorities "firmly implied" that they'd like see Dada Beijing shut. He subsequently canceled all gigs and parties that had been scheduled though October 26.
This is just one of many sudden security measures that has been announced in timing with the upcoming Party Congress. Starting October 18, over 2,000 delegates will gather in Beijing for the plenum, which occurs every five years. As with any major political event in the capital, security is bound to get tight – and that affects everything from live music to Airbnbs.
Here's a rundown of venues that are affected, and how long they'll be closed:
Jianghu Bar: Closed until Oct 22
School Bar: Closed until October 25
Temple Bar: Closed until October 25
Yugong Yishan: Closed until October 25
Dada: Closed until October 26 (Note: Dada Bar Shanghai will remain open)
We'll update this information as we learn more.
