Beijing Kuadi Deliveries 'Delayed' During Party Congress
Online shoppers in Beijing will need to wait longer for their purchases to arrive due to heightened security during the National Party Congress. Beijing-based customers are currently recieving notices from Taobao, JD and Baopals informing them that their shipments may take longer than usual.
"All shipments to Bejing are delayed. Some of them just till October 20, some longer depending on the item," says one such message from Baopals, an online portal that helps English-speakers order from Taobao.
Beijingers ordering from Taobao directly have recieved the following notice, which says that meetings in Beijing are affecting delivery times, and thanks customers for understanding:
Impacted areas include Beijing and the neighboring cities of Baoding and Langfang, in Hebei.
It is also likely that packages containing liquids will be more heavily impacted by the delays, since many online shops and courier services are not shipping liquids, powders or pastes, according to the BBC.
Over 2,000 delegates will gather in Beijing for the Party Congress, which starts October 18. The plenum is causing all sorts of inconveniences for Beijingers, including the cancelation of Airbnb's, longer subway lines and the temporary closure of live music venues and clubs.
