By Justine Lopez
Beijing officially unveiled the official logo for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games last week, China Daily reports. The ceremony was held at the iconic National Aquatics Center and was attended by celebrities such as actor Jackie Chan and pianist Lang Lang.
The highly-anticipated emblem is called ‘Winter Dream’ and incorporates the Chinese character dong – which translates to winter. The zig-zagging nature of the logo also serves to represent the movement of skaters, skiers and other winter athletes, as well as the peaks and valleys of the capital’s mountain ranges. ‘Beijing 2022’ is written underneath the image using traditional Chinese calligraphy.

The design was created by a team led by Lin Cunzhen, an associate professor at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts. It was chosen from over 4,500 entries from countries around the world.
"The emblem offers a unique integration of profound Chinese culture, international style and characteristics of winter sports," said Cai Qi, president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic. "It illustrates the ardent expectation of 1.3 billion Chinese people for the winter sports gala."
The Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games emblem was also unveiled at the ceremony. Like its counterpart, the design also incorporates traditional Chinese elements, such as the character for ‘flight.’
