Find Beijing's Best Bougie Burgers at The Butchers Club
By Noelle Mateer
Beijing loves expensive burgers. Think about it: How many times have you been served a burger with a fork? Answer: Too many times.
While there’s nothing wrong with putting foie gras on beef (kidding, animal rights!), too often, these bougie burgers over-deliver on price and under-deliver on taste. That’s where TBC comes in. We heretofore declare it Beijing’s best bougie burger spot.
What does that mean? It’s in Parkview Green, just below Stella McCartney and around the corner from Opera Bombana. And it’s expensive – at over RMB100 per burger, this is not a place we’d recommend for students. But then again, do the burgers in Wudaokou come with duck fat fries?
Our Wu Tang Burger (RMB118) is juicy and smothered in a rich, tangy kimchi sauce. This, plus the restaurant’s signature duck fat fries, is enough to power us through an entire day. Throw in a craft beer (Butchers Club serves Kaiba beers, from Shanghai), and you’ve got yourself a feast. But all this totals nearly RMB200, making it one of the capital’s priciest patties.
The Butchers Club comes to us from Hong Kong, a city where 200 kuai will get you a Diet Coke and a packet of crackers, so the pricing makes a weird sort of sense. But most logically of all, these are quality burgers – with majorly quality dry-aged beef. Maybe being bougie ain’t so bad after all.
