Pay-Per-Ride Elevators Are Now a Thing in Beijing
Pay-per-ride elevators are being installed in the capital’s old apartment buildings, reports South China Morning Post.
Residents
must pay a fee of RMB0.2 via card swipe each time they take a ride, up
or down. Traditionally, residents in buildings with elevators must pay a
yearly upkeep fee, but, as the amount is unregulated, monetary disputes
often break out between denizens and property companies.
It is estimated that a family of three will pay RMB60-100 per month to use the elevator.
Pay-per-ride
elevators will be installed in 11 structures in Daxing district by
year-end, according to the Beijing municipal government.
