National Museum of China Bids Farewell to Paper Tickets

The National Museum of China is going paperless. And by that, we mean museum-goers will no longer need to wait in line in order to receive paper tickets starting at some point this month, according to People's Daily. To access the museum, visitors will simply have to show their identity card or passport.

While the National Museum of China is free to visit (aside from a few exhibitions), tourists must currently wait in line to obtain a physical ticket in order to enter. Lines to get entry tickets can get notoriously long – sometimes extending up to 2 kilometers.      

The time it takes to wait in line for tickets, go through security and check bags has caused many to complain about the excessive lines.

The move comes after the Palace Museum did away with paperless tickets and started selling all tickets online in October.

The goal is to alleviate painstaking wait times at some of Beijing's most popular attractions.

The National Museum of China received over 8 million visitors in 2017, meaning about 26,000 people flocked to the museum on a daily basis.
