This year, Beijing will unveil a new international airport in the southern suburban region of Daxing.

Named Beijing Daxing International Airport, the aviation hub will be surrounded by 17,866 hectares of forest, as reported by Xinhua. Located 46 km south of downtown Beijing, the airport will rest at the intersection of the city's Daxing District and Langfang, in Hebei province.

Currently, the interior of the new airport as well as highways to and from the center are still being constructed.

The Daxing airport expects to handle 45 million travelers annually by 2021 and 72 million by 2025, the Civil Aviation Adminstration of China (CAAC) said.

With the Beijing Capital International Airport becoming increasingly overcrowded, handling over 100 million passengers in just the past year, the new airport is designed to take some of the pressure off.

According to CAAC, the main carriers at Daxing airport will be China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines, but international airlines will have the option to pick which airport to use or can choose to operate simultaneously in both.
