Founded in 1958,co-sponsored by the Provincial Government and the Ministry of Education, Fuzhou University is one of the national key universities that are selected into the “211 Project”, a Chinese government program for the 21st century to support 100 selected universities for their further rapid development and it is a national first-class discipline construction college and university. It has now developed into a key comprehensive university in Fujian Province, giving priority to engineering courses and also enjoying a reputation for excellence in other fields including sciences, economics, management, liberal arts, law, arts and design, etc.

Now Fuzhou University covers more than 467 hectares, including several campuses such as Yishan campus, Qishan campus, Tongpan campus, Quangang campus, Jinjiang campus, Jimei campus and the College of Industrial Art in Xiamen. The main running campus is Qishan campus, located in the University Town of Fuzhou Region. The present floor space of the whole university buildings for public use has reached over 1.23 million square meters and the sports field covers over 140,000 square meters. The total value of fixed assets is more than 3.3 billion Yuan, among which 1 billion are instruments and equipment for teaching and research. Its central library holds a collection of approximately 3.2 million volumes of books, 2.2 million volumes of e-books. Fuzhou University Network and Information Center is used as the main connection to Chinese Education and Scientific Research Network in Fuzhou.

【Education Resources】
There are 19 colleges in Fuzhou University, mainly for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate education and 1 independently operated college. The University boasts 1 national key subject, 1 national key supporting subject, 5 provincial advantageous subject innovation platform, 6 provincial characteristic subjects and 26 provincial key subjects. Especially the Chemistry, Engineering and Materials Science are in the international ESI discipline ranking top 1%, and the total subjects of the top %1 major in ESI is 49th rank among the mainland universities. There are 11 post-doctoral research stations, 10 doctoral degree programs for the first-rank disciplines, 3 doctoral degree programs for the second-rank disciplines (not including the first-rank disciplines), 36 master’s degree programs for the first-rank disciplines, 7 master’s degree programs for the second-rank disciplines (not including the first-rank disciplines), 12 professional degree programs (Among them, there are 23 engineering fields in the engineering master's degree programmers) and 78 undergraduate programs.

【Education Achievements】
At present, there are about 24,000 undergraduate students and 8,200 graduate students, among which over 550 are Ph.D. students. Since its establishment, about 210,000 students have graduated from Fuzhou University, including full-time doctoral and master’s degree students as well as those with the bachelor’s degrees and associate degrees. Fuzhou University has a national-level university science park and 11 national level and 74 provincial level science and technology innovation platforms. It has won 132 provincial or higher level achievements, of which 3 have been in national major award categories for science and technology, and registered 1,902nationally authorized patents. 7,046 science and technological articles are included in SCI, El, and ISTP journals. It is also the only university in Fujian Province that has a “National University Science Park” and a “National Technology Transfer Model Institution". The university has won many prizes including the “National Technology Market Golden Bridge Award”, "National Production-Study-Research Promotion Award" and the "National Production-Study-Research Innovation Award" as well as the "National Production-Study-Research Innovation Achievement Award” and the “Excellent Project Achievement Award”.

Fuzhou University has been taking great efforts to develop the cooperation and exchange with the outside world, It has built a friendly and collaborative relationship with Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China and other famous universities, scientific research institutes in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and more than 140 universities in different countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Italy, Canada, Australia and so on. The University is also engaged in promoting the exchanges between Chinese civilization and Western civilization, each year, there are more than 150 foreign experts are working in the school. It has established the “Library of the Western Belvedere”, the first western works center in China, and the Institute of International Sinology. Now Fuzhou University has 3 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects, 40 different Students' long /short visit program, including undergraduate, master, doctor and other advanced education level and the only one school that has cooperative education with Taiwan in doctor level, the only one school that has undergraduate and master level Sino-foreign cooperative education projects in Fujian province.
【Foreign Students】
Fuzhou University has enrolled nearly 1000 international students coming from Germany, the United States, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Cameroon and other countries. The school of overseas education in our university has a four-year undergraduate major of "Chinese language" for foreign students who don’t have any basis of Chinese. This major focuses on the practicality of Chinese teaching. It not only offers Chinese language courses, but also sets up Chinese traditional culture courses such as Taijiquan, calligraphy, Chinese medicine cultural experience, and idiom appreciation. Through these courses, students not only can improve their Chinese language skills quickly, acquiring Chinese proficiency certificates (HSK), but also can learn about traditional Chinese culture and enhance their ability of cross-cultural communication. Foreign students are welcome to learn Chinese here in a short time and improve their communication skills.
