Angie Ho 环球师霸NEW FANS EDUCATION 2022-06-07

New Fans Education采用的三步法:

1 - 我们培训学生的准确性

2 - 我们分析了需要改进的领域,以便为学生的成功制定计划

3 - 我们评估情况并解决学生的弱点

我们如何帮助纠正常见的雅思阅读错误:

  1. 拼写错误

如果学生的主要弱点是拼写,那么与我们一起努力培训拼写是非常重要。如果这确实是学生的弱点,我们会尝试培训学生:

New Fans Education,

NewFans Education,

IELTS is one of the most popular tests for non-nativeEnglish speakers, whether you want to study abroad, work abroad or immigrate toan English speaking country. Many of you might have done the IELTS test before. You might have wondered why your scores are not as high as you had expected.New fans Education focuses on helping students improve their scores in all fourtests in IELTS strategically. We will explore some tips to improve your readingand writing scores in IELTS today.

Reading

In IELTS reading, students will have 60 minutes tocomplete three reading passages with 40 questions. There are many differentways that we can help improve your reading scores. New Fans Education employssome good strategies to help improve students’ reading skills by providing realIELTS practice tests.

We at New fans Education use real past papers orCambridge IELTS practice tests. IELTS tests, although intimidating, are designed to identify what oneknows and what one doesn't. Using real practice tests is helpful because thenone can identify their possible weaknesses. We then can employ techniquestargeted for taking the IELTS reading exam. By following our curriculum, onewill be familiarized with different question types and the format of the test, and hence be more comfortable when the actual test comes.

Here are the 3-step approach that New Fans Education employs:

Step 1 - We keep students accountable and honest inexchange for accuracy

Once students are done with their test, we go throughanswers together and honestly correct them. As we do these practice tests,we mark honestly as a real IELTS examiner would. IELTS requires answers to beprecise, small spelling mistakes or incorrect grammar will also negativelyaffect your scores.  For example, “pet”vs “pets”, or “welcome” vs “wellcome”. We train students to get the accurateanswers that the IELTS standards would expect.

Step 2 - We analysed possible need-to-improve areas inorder to create a plan for your success We found that the areas to be refined are commonlyspelling, vocabulary, or familiarity of all the different question types. Weanalyse the details in all facets of their progression, such as looking at thepatterns of problem areas. By creating a plan tailored for you, we will helppave your path to your IELTS success.

Step 3 -  Weassess the situation and work on your weaknesses

A lot of times, students are already quite good atreading. However, the reason why they still may face issues is because badhabits can be developed when doing reading tests over the years. Once we haveidentified your weaknesses, we try to work on those bad habits so one does notrepeat the same mistakes repeatedly.

Here are how we can help to correct common IELTSreading mistakes:

1.    Spelling mistakes

If your main weakness is spelling, it is veryimportant for us to work on your spelling together. If that is indeed yourweakness, we try to train students to:

a.    Create your difficult tospell list

We encourage students to have a list ofdifficult-to-spell words. Do not be discouraged if the list is long. Evennative English speakers have trouble spelling words that are difficult to spellor that they have neve spelt before. Therefore, with a spelling reference listin hand, one can review the list at any time and right before the exam so onecan finish the reading exam in a timely manner without having to struggle withthe spellings.

b.    Pay attention to homophones, close sounding words and easily confused words

Homophones, words that share the same sound, can beconfusing. For example, sun and son, fish and phish, flower and flour, boardand bored. These homophones and near-homophones, which are closely soundingwords, can make or break your IELTS reading scores. It will be unfortunate ifone does know the meaning of the words but spelt it as another word and losespoints. Therefore, we encourage students to know and pay attention to thesehomophones, close sounding words and easily confused words.

c.    Become familiar with English spelling rules.

It is a common misconception that English spellingdoes not follow a particular set of rules. If one has learned phonics before, they will notice certain combinations of letters will form certain sounds.Being aware of these spelling rules will help you avoid some of the most commonspelling errors.

2. Vocabulary

IELTS reading test is as much a readingtest as a vocabulary test. The key to doing an IELTS reading test is to locatethe keywords or their synonyms. Once you can find the keywords or their synonyms, the answeris usually not far away. The answer you need will usually be in the sentencebefore, the sentence of, and the sentence after. Oftentimes, when studentscomplain about not being able to finish the test in time, the problem lies intheir knowledge of the repertoire of vocabulary. Students do not understand themeaning of the vocabulary and their synonyms and therefore have troublelocating the answer.

We train students to:

  1. Get accustomed to English root     words - prefixes and suffixes

KnowingPrefixes, suffixes, and roots is one of the most fundamental strategies forrevealing the meaning of never-before-seen words to students. By trainingstudents to know different prefixes and suffixes, students will have the keysto decipher difficult and new words. When students know these common Englishprefixes and suffixes, they do not only improve on their spelling skills butalso their reading skills in general which will be beneficial for life.

  1. Practice making logical guesses to the meaning of     words from its context

If one is encountering a brand new word, one can make educated guesses of the meaning of the word from its context.First, check for the word’s prefix and suffix, and see if one can identify anyroot words that you already know. Then, determine from the sentence structure, whether the word is a noun, a verb, an adjective, an adverb or something else. One can then read the entire paragraph to see what the paragraph is generallysaying. From all the clues that one gathered, make an educated guess of themeaning of the word.

3 - improve general reading skills

We train students to work on their skimming andscanning skills in order to locate important information. We will help studentsunderstand and know topic sentences and conclusion sentences to find importantdetails. We also train students to read with the intent of knowing the directmeaning and the implied meaning so as to locate hidden messages.

4.Familiarize with all the different question types

AtNew Fans education, we will help you familiarize with all the different typesof reading questions. Sometimes students are already good at reading, vocabulary and spelling, but they might still be challenged when it comes tospecific types of exam questions. In IELTS reading exam, students will facemultiple choices, short questions, information matching, true or false etc. Wewill train students on all different types of questions so then they will beable to nail the exam confidently.

Writing

IELTSwriting exam consists of task 1 writing and task 2 writing. In order to get ahigh score, students will have to be able to complete both tasks as per IELTSstandard.

Task1

Task1 is a task on reporting data and information. Students should spend about 20minutes on this task and write no less than 150 words. Task 1 writing isstraightforward yet the key to time management because task 1 writing onlytakes up one third of the total score of the writing exam.

At New fans Education we train students to:

  1. Know the standard writing     structure

The standard writing structure is extremely importantto know because it does not matter what chart type or question type the studentwill face in the exam, it will still be applicable. That way, students can savetime not having to think about how to structure their passage and work onimportant details that give them a score straight away.

  1. Learn how to summarize

Paraphrasing and summarizing isessential for task 1 writing. It’s helpful to simply describe what the studentknows as a way to create their own understanding of something before they tryto analyze new ideas. We work together to summarize readings of individualarticles or combine readings into a summary.

  1. Read graphs correctly

Students will also have to know howto correctly read graphs in order to get high scores in task 1. Withoutlearning how to extract information from these graphs accurately, even if thestudents’ grammar and writing skills are good, they will not be able to scorethe points because the task requires them to report and interpret the data theyare seeing.

  1. Learn the vocabulary in     reporting data

IELTS looks at specific vocabularyand terminologies when it comes to data reporting. We work with students towork on these data reporting vocabulary and linking words to improve datareporting accuracy and the general coherence and cohesion of their writing.

Task 2

Task 2 focuses on argumentatives. Students will have40 minutes to complete task 2 and will need to write up to 250 words. Studentswill be marked on their task achievement, coherence and cohesion, vocabularyand grammar.

We at News fans education train students on:

  1. Brainstorming techniques

By brainstorming, students cangenerate a good amount of ideas in a short period of time. It is a good way tolook at any biases or logical fallacies before writing on paper. It isgenerally a good way for writing because brainstorming can provide multipleperspectives for the students to use in forming arguments and ideas, which isan essential skill to critical thinking.

  1. Grammatical structures

When students are familiar withdifferent grammatical structures and can apply them in writing task 2, not onlydoes it add richness to the writing itself, it also weans out anymiscommunications and misinterpretations by making the message clear,

  1. Vocabulary

Not only do we help with students'basic vocabulary that IELTS requires, we also go further by helping studentswith idioms and sayings. Having an extensive vocabulary helps improve thegeneral clarity of the writing and convey the right message for differentsituations.

  1. How to properly form an argument and academic writing

Academic writing is a writing skillto train in itself. We train students on forming proper arguments by learningstructures of academic writing. We work with students to form proper thesisstatements, topic sentences and conclusion sentences. We also train students toinsert main ideas and supporting ideas. Forming proper arguments helps studentsnot only in their task 2 writing but process their thoughts and allow them todiscover their own points of views and perspectives on different topics.
