Dear MPP Tangri,
I implore you to direct your Standing Committee onSocial Policy to reconsider the premises and assumptions that underlie Bill 83– a Bill to create a “Day of Remembrance and Action on “Islamophobia” inOntario”.
The Bill is biased in its assumption that allnon-Muslim Ontarians are seized by “Islamophobia” even as the term itself ismisunderstood and given to multiple interpretations – some of which would serveto protect Sharia Law and its demonstrated inequalities. This Bill thereforestands to validate concepts that are antithetical to the freedoms embeddedwithin a Western liberal democracy.
TheStatistics Canada report stated that hate crime in Canada represents a mere“0.1% of the 1.9 million non-traffic-related crimes” that were reported in2017. There were 349 reports from Muslim communities in 2017. Given apopulation of more than 1.2 million Muslims in Canada, the numbers were rathersmall and incapable of supporting such an assertion like “Islamophobia”!
In early 2018 and 2019, a similar “day against Islamophobia” was floatedfederally before crashing under the weight of a public support level of only17% or less. The water-carrier for “Islamophobia”, in the form of MotionM-103, was similarly met with only 14% or less approval by the public-at-largeeven as it was passed by a Liberal/ NDP majority vote in the House of Commonsin March, 2017.
Remembrance Day in Canada is a unique annual ceremony tocommemorate the members of our armed forces who have sacrificed in the line of duty.When certain religious / political groups and politicians call for such a “Dayof Remembrance against Islamophobia”, this is not only a deep insult to allsoldiers and veterans who served for this great nation, but also a slap on thefaces of all Ontarians! So please STOP it!
