(A Day of Remembranceand Action against Islamophobia in Ontario)

事件背景信息

·       2017年1月29日，一位加拿大青年在魁北克城的一座清真寺开枪射击，造成了6名穆斯林死亡。

·       同年3月，联邦自由党穆斯林议员Iqra Khalid趁机提出了 Anti-Islamophobia Motion M103动议，并在自由党控制的国会迅速通过。大多数保守党和魁人党议员对此投了反对票。

·       2018年和2019年年初，均有超过100个穆斯林团体联名向加拿大国会施压，要求设立每年1月29日为“1.29纪念／国殇日”(An Annualized Day of Remembrance and Action against Islamophobia)

Bill-83 提案进展

安省版本的同类提案就是Bill-83 (ADay of Remembrance and Action against Islamophobia in Ontario)。目前,该提案的进展如下：

·       一读(First Reading)：2019年3月19日，新民主党议员Rima Berns－McGown在安省议会正式提出Bill-83；

·       二读(SecondReading)：2019年4月4日，安省议员在议会进行了公开讨论／辩论。该提案得到了新民主党议员的一致支持，和几位保守党穆斯林议员发言明确表示赞同，其中包括：

ØStephen Lecce(King - Vaughan)

ØKaleed Rasheed (MississaugaEast－Cooksville）

·       目前，Bill-83提案正处于三读（即终读投票）之前的民意收集阶段。选民的意见将有效影响各位省议员在三读(ThirdReading)中的投票取向。

根据 ACT forAMERICA 的统计显示，40到50个私人电话或电子邮件，就能让任何一个政客／议员改变他们对一个法案的投票取向。

Dear MPP XXX,

As a constituent in yourriding, I am writing to express the strongestopposition against Bill83 –a Bill to create a “Day of Remembrance and Action against Islamophobia inOntario”.   

The Billis biased in its assumption that all non-Muslim Ontarians are seized by“Islamophobia” even as the term itself is misunderstood and given to multipleinterpretations – some of which would serve to protect Sharia Law and itsdemonstrated inequalities.  This Bill therefore stands to validateconcepts that are antithetical to the freedoms embedded within a Westernliberal democracy.

The Statistics Canada report stated that hate crime inCanada represents a mere “0.1% of the 1.9 million non-traffic-related crimes”that were reported in 2017. There were 349 reports from Muslim communities in2017. Given a population of more than 1.2 million Muslims in Canada, thenumbers were rather small and incapable of supporting such an assertion like“Islamophobia”!

In early 2018 and 2019, a similar “day againstIslamophobia” was floated federally before crashing under the weight of apublic support level of only 17% or less.  The water-carrier for “Islamophobia”, in the form ofMotion M-103, was similarly met with only 14% or less approval by thepublic-at-large even as it was passed by a Liberal/ NDP majority vote in theHouse of Commons in March, 2017. 

Remembrance Day inCanada is a unique annual ceremony to commemorate the members of our armedforces who have sacrificed in the line of duty. When certain religious /political groups and politicians call for such a “Day of Remembrance againstIslamophobia”, this is not only a deep insult to all soldiers and veterans whoserved for this great nation, but also a slap on the faces of all Ontarians! Soplease STOP it!

Dear MPP XXX,

I noticed that currently the Bill 83, a bill to createa "Day of Remembrance and Action on Islamophobia in Ontario" wasunder discussion in the provincial parliament. As a citizen and voter inOntario, I want to tell you that the "Islamophobia" is a mistakegenerating unbalance among ethnic groups. Actually, when the federal parliamenttried to pass this bill, a poll was conducted, which revealed that 49% Canadiandisapproved Islamophobia and 40% strongly disapproved. On the opposite, theapproval came from only 17% of those polled (conducted by Forum Research,widely reported by media, such as Toronto Star, January 27,2018,  https://torontosun.com/news/national/canadians-dont-want-an-anti-islamophobia-day-poll).

In Ontario, as well as in whole Canada, wecannot let any ethnic group be on top of other groups. One of the key reasonsfor our immigrants choosing to this country was its unbiased and fairmulti-cultural policy. But, since the Islamophobia bill was proposed, thisfairness has been damaged. I have seen that a super ethnic group stands on topof other ethnic groups. The federal government have imposed over-protective measuresand policies leaning to the group. If Ontario allows Bill 83 passed, ourrenowned and successful multi-culture harmony will collapse and disappear.Therefore, I STRONGLY hope you consider whether this Bill 83 be passed.
