前言 |

《Scavengers & Other Creatures in Promised Lands》是由UCL和AA的教授Ricardo de Ostos和Nannette Jackowski共同编撰的一本建筑学专著。

《Scavengers & Other Creatures in Promised Lands》by Ricardo de Ostos and Nannette Jackowski.

Is the idea of environment in architecture only ever reducible to ‘environmental architecture’? For AA unit masters Ricardo de Ostos and Nannette Jackowski the answer is a resolute no. Instead they offer an alternative reading of ‘environment’, in which the brutal and lyrical are juxtaposed through visually compelling narratives of architecture. Illustrating their approach, this book presents ten years of student projects, all prompted by the unit’s visits to extreme geographic contexts – from the rainforests of Brazil to the quarries of northern India. With additional photographic documentation and conversations with Lebbeus Woods, Geoff Manaugh and Peter Cook, Scavengers & Other Creatures in Promised Lands explores the gripping power of myth and fiction as radical narratives for imagining the near future of cities and forests.

NANNETTE JACKOWSKI

Nannette Jackowski is a former project architect at Wilkinson Eyre Architects and currently works for Zaha Hadid in London. She has been involved in the design, detailing, construction and management of a variety of small and large scale projects like Zentralstadion Leipzig – a football stadium for the World Cup 2006 in Germany, Maggie’s Centre in Oxford and the London Aquatic Centre for the Olympic Games 2012 in London.

Nannette studied architecture at the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences in Germany and received a master of architecture degree at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London under the direction of Sir Peter Cook.

Together with Ricardo de Ostos she founded NaJa & deOstos, a London-based studio developed as a platform for experimental architecture. They are the authors of The Hanging Cemetery of Baghdad (2007) and Pamphlet Architecture 29: Ambiguous Spaces (2008). Their projects have been exhibited at the 6th International Architecture Biennale in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2005; the Summer Exhibition 2006 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London and the London Festival of Architecture 2008.

工作室简介 |

NAJA & DEOSTOS

is a London based architectural studio exploring symbiotic relations between emerging cultural patterns and architectural narratives.  With a strong research based design focus attitude Nannette Jackowski and Ricardo de Ostos seek to generate an adventurous (and sometimes excitingly dangerous) but beneficial built environment through critical and challenging speculation.

Their work is largely engaged in ambiguous situations within urban and social dynamics for which the studio explores alternative narrative-like scripts. Projects addressing catastrophic scenarios, contaminated landscapes, corporate fields and newborn cities are among the architect’s diversified portfolio. Although different in scope and scale, all their projects intend to craft a sense of place.

From human-size installations to building-size architectural propositions to large-scale infrastructural projects NaJa & deOstos seeks to create an interwoven ecology of technology and culturally modified nature.

Amid a contemporary fascination for techniques and their commercialization, NaJa & deOstos develop an interdisciplinary architectural language, built or un-built, that stimulates a constant questioning of our roles as creators and consumers in an irresolute and often contradictory discipline.
