什么是化学工程?


化学工程是一个将化学知识、生物化学知识与工程工具相结合的学科,旨在为人类生活提供最佳解决方案,包括我们日常使用的产品和用于产品生产的原材料。除了炼油等传统产业外,化工领域的新发展还包括健康和福祉、食品和营养、水和能源、气候变化和资源等。通过本专业的学习和实践,学生可以为社会发展、提高生活质量做出更大的贡献。

GTIIT的化学工程与工艺专业有何特别之处?


广以化学工程与工艺专业的课程体系与以色列理工学院完全相同。在广以教授本专业课程的教授大多来自以色列理工学院化学工程学院,或者根据以色列理工学院的标准,在全世界各个顶级研究机构招聘而来。多元化、国际化的师资团队,使学校具备了更加优越的教育基础和更具活力的教学氛围。


广以的化工课程涵盖传统的基础化学与工程内容,结合了先进的理论与工具,如纳米技术、生物医学工程、海水淡化和新能源等。广以化学工程专业的教学实验室是按国际一流水准建造的,生均面积大,设备先进,为专业学习创造了一个理想的环境。广东省化学与精细化工实验室刚落户汕头,为学生提供了学以致用的绝佳机会。


职业发展


作为中国南方为数不多的化学工程系()之一,广以的化学工程与工艺专业在人才培养方面将发挥关键作用——致力于为中国和世界培养顶级化学工程师。由于学生在校是接受100%的全英教育,他们较早具备了在国际组织和公司工作的能力,也为日后在海外顶尖大学深造做好准备。毕业之后,我们的学生可以胜任各种工作,如工程师、政府官员、经理、教师,乃至社会工作者。


研究领域


高级分离工程、纳米技术、聚合物和塑料、生物工程、生物医学工程、化工过程优化、安全、水和废水处理及管理、气候变化、能源等。


老师建议


建议学生发展自己的学习技能,理解科学和工程的基础知识,注重独立完成任务,同时多参与小组合作,培养批判性思维,学习计算机编程,增强自己的沟通表达能力,包括技术写作和公开演讲。

Program Introduction

 What is Chemical Engineering? 



Chemical engineering is about combination of chemistry/biochemistry knowledge with engineering tools to provide best solutions for mankind, in particular,  the goods that one uses every day and raw materials leading to production of the goods. Aside from such traditional chemical engineering such as oil refinery, new development in chemical engineering includes health and wellbeing, food and nutrition, water and energy, climate change and resources. Through learning and practicing in chemical engineering, ones can make much better contributions to our societies and improvement in the quality of living.

What's special about Chemical Engineering in GTIIT?






The course curriculum of chemical engineering taught in GTIIT is exactly the same as that in Technion, one of top research based universities. Students are taught by a series of professors from either Technion Chemical Engineering or those recruited from the top institutes in the world according to the Technion standards. The teaching staff members either from Technion or from well-established organizations in the world provide excellent quality of education and dynamic culture in teaching.


Being one of few chemical engineering departments/schools in southern China, the chemical engineering program in GTIIT plays a key role in training top world class chemical engineers to serve China and beyond. The courses taught in GTIIT combine traditional and basic chemistry and engineering, with the advanced theories and tools such as nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, water desalination, and new energy. 


The GT-Chemical Engineering teaching lab is built with world-class standard. Equipped with most advanced professional instruments, the spacious lab provides an ideal environment for teaching experiments. The newly-built Shantou Guangdong provincial lab on chemistry and fine chemical engineering also provides excellent opportunities for the students for learning by doing.


Career Prospects


As GTIIT students are taught in English, they will be well equipped to work in international organizations and companies and be ready for advanced studies in top overseas universities. Eventually, GTIIT students will be well equipped to work in various professions, such as engineers, government officers, managers, teachers, and even social workers.  


Research Area


Advanced separation, nanotechnology, polymers and plastics, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, optimization, safety, water and wastewater treatment/management, climate change, energy, etc. 


Advice


Students are advised to develop individual learning skills, to understand fundamentals of science and engineering, as well as to focus on work independently. Students are also encouraged to participate in teamwork, to nurture critical thinking, as well as to master computer programming. They are expected to develop and enhance communication capabilities, including those of technical writing and public speaking.
