Speech｜广以师说：努力做一个大写的人，一个不停歇的攀登者
日前，广东以色列理工学院举行2019-2020学年颁奖典礼，20位教师荣获“卓越教学奖”。高级访问讲师Fabian Rios作为获奖教师代表上台致辞。
Fabian2019年加入广东以色列理工学院，目前教授本科生高分子流变学、高分子材料导论等课程。Fabian为人风趣幽默，擅长于用言简意赅的方式向同学们解释复杂的理工科问题，深受同学们喜欢。在本学年学生课堂教学评估（讲授课组别）中获得最高分。
在致辞中，Fabian结合自身多年的研发经历，鼓励同学们不畏困难，发挥真才实学，努力让世界变得更加美好。

亲爱的同学们：
探索求知的过程如同攀登高峰
前路崎岖，请保持勇往直前的姿态
跨过溪流、翻越巨石
高处不胜寒，你的脚步会因此停滞
顶峰有时看起来遥不可及
然而一个优秀的攀登者可以克服寒冷和痛苦
他渴望登顶，也享受攀登的过程
他不会沉醉于登顶的喜悦
因为他深知
还有更高耸险峻的山峰等着他
人生就是一个不断攀登的过程
你需要不断接受或大或小的挑战
一个优秀的攀登者乐在其中
怕什么真理无穷

Fabian Rios
材料科学与工程专业学生林洽表示，Fabian是良师，更是益友。“他总是鼓励我们专注于自己喜欢的事物，并努力尝试将所学内容与生活联系起来，加以应用。”
在大四学生唐绍凯看来，Fabian激励人心的分享仿佛为同学们打了一剂强心剂。“感谢老师们传授知识、陪伴成长。我会脚踏实地、认真学习，努力做一个大写的人。”
Fabian Rios博士
高级访问讲师
Fabian Rios博士在以色列理工学院先后获得电气工程学士学位、材料工程硕士学位，随后在美国马萨诸塞大学洛厄尔分校获得塑料工程博士学位。他同时还拥有海法大学工商管理硕士学位。
25年来，Fabian Rios博士致力于将教学、科研与行业发展紧密结合在一起。他曾任教于位于特拉维夫的申卡尔工程与设计学院塑料工程系长达九年。在过去的六年里，他担任以色列理工学院材料工程系高级讲师，教授本科生、研究生包括流体动力学、传热传质学、聚合物流变学和聚合物加工等课程。Rios博士围绕聚合物、聚合物复合材料和塑料产品设计领域开展学术研究，至今已在专业期刊上发表12篇同行评审文章，在会议论文集中发表4篇同行评审文章，并参与多场国内、国际性会议。
Fabian Rios博士在塑料行业研发方面具有丰富的经验。他曾任职于以色列塑料和橡胶中心，担任高级研究员长达六年，并拥有超过十年的在两家聚合物和塑料领域的国际企业担任研发经理的经验。他成功地推动各类研发产品落地，是六项专利及已递交申请专利的共同发明人。
The 2019-2020 Academic Year Awards Ceremony was held at GTIIT recently. 20 lecturers and tutors received GTIIT Excellent in Teaching Award. Dr. Fabian Rios, Senior Visiting Lecturer of GTIIT, also Excellent in Teaching Award winner, delivered an inspiring speech at the ceremony.
Fabian joined GTIIT in 2019, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Introduction to Polymeric Materials, Polymer Rheology and Momentum, Heat and Mass Transport, etc. He is good at simplifying and clarifying complicated questions in science and engineering to his students, which makes him one of the popular teachers among GTIIT. He was ranked the first (Lecturers Group), according to the Teaching & Learning Evaluation Questionnaire result.
In the ceremony, he took his research and development experience as an example, and encouraged GTIIT students to face all kinds of difficulties in life and work hard to create a better world.
Speech
Dear Students,
Going through University is like climbing a high mountain. It's hard, you have to climb all the time, you have to cross creeks of cold water, climb high boulders and overcome many obstacles. It's cold and your feet hurt. The peak seems sometimes very far and unreachable. However, a good climber overcomes the cold and the pain. He does not only want to reach the peak, but enjoys the climbing too. He knows, that he will be spending on this peak only a few minutes, and then he will go down again. He knows that after reaching this peak, it will be other mountains to climb, some of them with even higher and more difficult peaks to reach. And after these mountains, there will be other mountains, and other mountains. This is what life is about. You are climbing mountains all the time, small, and big. A good climber enjoys also the way. Work hard but enjoy the way.
University years are great years. It is very clear what you have to do, you gain knowledge, you have friends beside you, teachers to guide you and help you to succeed, you can play sports, join clubs. Do not think only about reaching your degree. Work hard but enjoy the way.
Life is not easy. Difficulties do not end here. You will have to face many during your life. Many mountains to climb, many rivers to cross. Enjoy the way, your friends, your family, your teachers.
One day, not very far, you will actually reach this one peak. You will get your degree. You may go to work or continue to a higher degree. China is a mighty country and is developing very fast. There are a lot of things to do, a lot of new things to create, a lot of things that can be improved or fixed. This is the work of scientists and engineers. You will be the ones that will have to do it.
We, old scientists and engineers, have created many things in the last decades. I'm a plastic engineer. Plastics have brought many advancements to humanity but have also created a big environmental burden. It is for you to solve some of the problems science has created. It is for you to improve and create a better world. That is what I think scientists and engineers are for. To create a better world. For everyone.
Psychologists say that one of the most important thing in order to achieve happiness is to have a sense of purpose. Embrace your purpose. Enjoy the way. Create a better world. Be a great person and a great Engineer.

Fabian Rios
"Fabian is not only our teacher but also our good friend," said Lin Qia, from Materials Science and Engineering program. "Fabian always encourages us to focus on what we really like and explore how to apply the knowledge we have learned."
For Year 4 student Tang Shaokai, Fabian's speech was inspiring. "We are grateful to every teacher met along the way. They impart our knowledge, inspire our thinking and lead us to grow. I will work hard and strive to be a better person."

Visiting Senior Lecturer
Dr. Fabian Rios received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and M.Sc. in Materials Engineering from the Technion Israel Institute of Technology; and his Ph.D. in Plastics Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell USA. He also holds an MBA from the University of Haifa.
Fabian has been intermittently combining academic teaching and research with industrial development work for the last 25 years. He was a faculty member for nine years at the Department of Plastics Engineering at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Tel Aviv and during the last six years he has been a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Material Engineering at the Technion in Israel, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer, polymer rheology and polymer processing. His academic research in the field of polymers, polymer composites and plastic product design has led to twelve refereed papers in professional journals, four refereed papers in conference proceedings and participation as a lecturer in several national and international conferences.
Fabian has extensive experience in research and development at and for the Plastics Industry. He served for six years as a Senior Researcher for the Israeli Plastics and Rubber Center and held Research and Development Manager positions for more than ten years at two international polymer and plastics companies. His development work has led to various commercially successful products and he is a co-inventor of six patents and pending patents.
